Wrexham have a number of players on international duty right now, one of whom being Kieffer Moore.

Wrexham are back in the Championship after more than 40 years out of the English second tier, and they now have players back in the Welsh national team.

For the first time since 2008, Wrexham have a player representing Wales, with three having been called up initially for this September international break.

Danny Ward, Kieffer Moore and Nathan Broadhead were called up for Wales this month, but injuries to both Ward and Broadhead meant that only Moore has played for Wales during the break.

Moore scored in Wales’ 1-0 win over Kazakhstan last week. But the 33-year-old striker was an unused substitute as Craig Bellamy’s Wales lost 1-0 against Canada in an international friendly.

Why didn’t Kieffer Moore feature in Wales vs Canada?

Moore went into this month’s international break with an injury sustained in the opening game of the season against Southampton. Moore picked up an ankle ligament injury which forced him off the pitch on his debut, but he hastily returned against West Brom in the next outing.

Since then, the towering striker has scored four in five total games for the Dragons and is so far looking like money very well spent by owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac. But it’s possible that Moore was rested because of his ankle injury against Canada.

Speaking recently, Phil Parkinson revealed Moore is still carrying an ankle injury, saying after the Kazakhstan game: “Kieffer’s had this problem with his ankle ligament since the Southampton game.

“Ideally, we’d like to have had him some time for it to settle but he was keen to go and join up with the squad and we were more than happy for him to do that. I’m sure that the medical team over there will assess him.”

Who starts up front for Wrexham vs QPR this weekend?

Wrexham return to Championship action with a game against QPR at the Racecourse this weekend.

But Parkinson already has a few injury concerns in the side, despite it being so close to the start of the season: Ward is out for several months, Josh Windass is out for several weeks, and the likes of Broadhead and Moore are carrying niggles, with several other injured first-team players too.

Moore being rested against Canada though will come as good news for Parkinson who’ll no doubt want Moore to lead the line against QPR this weekend.

He’ll likely be partnered by summer signing Ryan Hardie who scored his first goal for Wrexham in the recent Carabao Cup win over Preston, then starting up top alongside Moore against Millwall.

Wrexham’s game against QPR kicks off at 3pm on Saturday.
