Wrexham have had a tough run of League One fixtures since returning following the October international break.

The Red Dragons signed off for the break by smashing Northampton Town 4-1 at the Racecourse Ground.

Upon their return to action, Wrexham beat Rotherham United 1-0 at the New York Stadium, ending a winless streak on the road.

Paul Mullin shone and scored in 16 seconds vs Rotherham and is now the second-highest scorer in the EFL in 2024.

After Rotherham, Phil Parkinson had to prepare his side for a tough meeting with Huddersfield Town on Tuesday evening.

Ryan Barnett was Wrexham’s best player vs Huddersfield but when all was said and done, they were forced to settle for a 0-0 draw at the Racecourse.

Phil Parkinson’s Wrexham message before Huddersfield Town and Rotherham United

It was a somewhat disappointing result for the Welsh outfit, whose chances of winning League One have now taken a big hit.

Birmingham City won once more in midweek, opening up a four-point gap ahead of Parkinson’s side while still having a game in hand.

However, the Wrexham manager was pretty upbeat post-match and has now, as per The Athletic, revealed what he told his players in the dressing room before the games with Huddersfield and Rotherham.

He said: “I told the players in the dressing room that before the Rotherham game, we would have taken four points from these two games.

“Two divisions separated ourselves and Rotherham and Huddersfield last year, and we have gone toe-to-toe with both.”

What Huddersfield Town did that shows major respect to Wrexham

As mentioned by Parkinson above, both Rotherham United and Huddersfield were playing two divisions above Wrexham in the 2023/24 season.

In turn, you would have assumed that those sides would be more than willing to take the game to the Red Dragons and dominate.

However, Huddersfield in particular were very cautious in their approach, time-wasting heavily in the first 45 and even seen a player booked for a yellow card.

It shows just how far Wrexham have come as a club and though the League One title is probably out of reach already, a chance to secure the second automatic promotion place or a spot in the play-offs remains very much on the cards this season.
