The unexpected message Ryan Reynolds sent ‘superb’ Wrexham ace after completing transfer

Sam Dalby has now shared what Ryan Reynolds first said to him after completing his transfer to Wrexham.

Sam Dalby secured a transfer to the Racecourse Ground in August 2022, joining from Southend United for an undisclosed fee.

Dalby made 41 National League appearances in his debut campaign for Wrexham as the club won promotion back into the EFL for the first time in 15 years.

However, the centre-forward only completed 90 minutes in a handful of those matches and was instead often used off the bench.

Dalby still managed to score one and assist one in the league though, playing an important role in the Red Dragons’ return to League One.

The 24-year-old enjoyed less success on the goal front in the following campaign, finding the net just once in 31 league outings, though Dalby was still dubbed ‘superb’ back in June.

But Dalby has since joined Dundee United on a season-long loan and has so far failed to find the back of the net for the Scottish outfit.

What Ryan Reynolds said to Sam Dalby after Wrexham transfer

Fellow Wrexham striker Steven Fletcher sent Dalby a message after he joined Dundee United, with the 37-year-old having previously spent time there during his long playing career.

Now, the London-born hitman has revealed what Wrexham owner Ryan Reynolds first said to him when he initially joined the Red Dragons just over two years ago.

As per the Daily Record, Dalby shared what Reynolds is like behind the scenes and explained what the American actor texted him on the completion of his move, which he was not expecting.

He said: “I’ll get that question a lot, ‘Do you actually know him?’ or does he just put a name on the club but they’re very involved.

“They’re always checking in on you, they text you and stuff like that, which is great.

“That wasn’t something I expected when I first joined, but it makes it a bit more personal. The first day I signed it was like, ‘Hey, it’s Ryan!’ That’s something that you don’t really expect. It’s just crazy.”

Does Sam Dalby have a future at Wrexham

While Dalby seemingly enjoys working under Reynolds, his long-term future at the Racecourse is currently up in the air.

The forward signed a three-year deal with the club initially, which is now due to expire at the end of the 2024/25 season.

Dalby failed to really prove himself as a prolific goalscorer when donning the Wrexham shirt and zero goals for Dundee United so far this season is unlikely to do him any favours when it comes to securing a fresh contract.

The former Southend man is currently competing with five other centre-forwards for just two starting places at Wrexham.

And though Jack Marriott and Fletcher are also out of contract next year, the club will probably want to bring in a higher-quality forward next summer, rather than trying to reintegrate Dalby into the eleven.

That could change if his form in Scotland takes a dramatic upturn but right now, he looks set to leave the club for free in 2025.
