Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson had a hard time reaching Paul Mullin previously, with the striker offering a hilarious response to his boss.

Wrexham will be forever in debt to Paul Mullin for the role he has played in helping them climb the EFL ladder.

The Red Dragons face Cambridge United in the League One meeting on Tuesday evening – the side they were able to pry their top goalscorer away from back in 2021.

Mullin joined on a free transfer after finishing as the highest scoring player in League Two and winning promotion to the third tier.

The now 30-year-old has since had a prolific career in Wales, but after being such a pivotal figure for three years, he’s now fallen heavily out of favour.

Wrexham fans continue to question Mullin’s absence, now missing 10 league games in a row.

But while he can’t even make matchday squads anymore, there was once a time when Phil Parkinson was desperate to get him back.

Phil Parkinson couldn’t contact Paul Mullin after injury

Mullin had a simply superb 2022/23 season, scoring 38 league goals as Wrexham finally escaped the National League.

The Welsh outfit then jetted off to America for their pre-season tour ahead of what was their first campaign in the top-four tiers for a decade and a half.

However, it wasn’t exactly the best trip for Mullin, who, after colliding with Manchester United goalkeeper Nathan Bishop during a friendly meeting in the USA, suffered a punctured lung.

While the Wrexham players flew home after completing their tour, Mullin remained in America to receive treatment for the injury.

However, there was a drop in communication between the player and the club after he was left in the US.

Mullin missed the start of the 2023/24 season as a result of his clash with Bishop and speaking back in August 2023, Parkinson revealed he had been trying to contract the forward as he wanted ‘Mulls back’, but the Liverpool-born ace wasn’t answering calls.

Parkinson said: “We’ve got to get Mulls back from California first of all. He hasn’t been answering his phone for a few days! Which you can’t blame.

“No, he’ll be back with us and when he comes back in the next few days, we’ll be able to assess [him], we’ll send him to see a specialist and see how long he’s going to be out for.”

Mullin then responded to Parkinson in hilarious fashion, taking to X/Twitter to quote-tweet a four-word response, simply writing: “BRB, data ran out.”

Big Paul Mullin future update given

Mullin missed the first six games of the 2023/24 League Two campaign but still managed to score 24 and assist eight upon his return.

The current season hasn’t been anywhere near as prosperous for the striker, however, after he once again missed the start of the campaign with a problem.

He’s only scored three goals this term and, as mentioned above, has been left out of Wrexham’s last 10 League One squads.

However, despite being axed by Parkinson, Humphrey Ker spoke about Mullin’s future recently and seemed to suggest he won’t be going anywhere.

The number nine is under contract with Wrexham until the end of the 2026/27 season.
