Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson was left frustrated against Charlton Athletic on Saturday but is seemingly optimistic for the future.
Wrexham were on the road again on Saturday afternoon, travelling down to take on Charlton Athletic at The Valley.
Andy Cannon’s second-half goal appeared to have given Wrexham all three points before a cruel late twist.
Max Cleworth was penalised for a late handball inside the area, leaving Matty Godden to score from the spot and secure a 2-2 draw for the hosts.
James McClean showed his frustration at Charlton’s late equaliser, though the Wrexham captain held back his anger.
Charlton’s leveller left Wrexham goalscorer Andy Cannon ‘gutted’ too, with the Wrexham squad clearly crestfallen after such a late blow.

Phil Parkinson on Wrexham learning
Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson vented his frustration whilst speaking to Wrexham’s official YouTube channel, but tried to pick out a positive.
Parkinson suggested that Wrexham are ‘developing all the time’ and showed real signs of improvement against Charlton.
Parkinson was delighted with how Wrexham handled Charlton defensively but also felt that his players hurt Charlton going forward.
Control of possession and decision making were the main factors Parkinson loved against Charlton, believing that they were signs of Wrexham’s improvement.
“We’re developing all the time – and you could see that today,” said Parkinson.
“We handled their shape really well, hurt them in wide areas terrifically well. It was the way we controlled the game with the ball at times, I thought the decision making was as good as it’s been, certainly on our travels,” he added.
Wrexham faced a tough run against Rotherham United, Huddersfield Town and Charlton Athletic but came out of those games unbeaten – and Parkinson should be proud of that run.
Even Charlton’s Josh Edwards is backing Wrexham for success, so Parkinson and co have come through this tough three-game run admirably.
Parkinson comments should be a warning to League One rivals
Wrexham came so close to claiming seven points from three games in that run but have to make do with five.
Saturday’s late leveller was a real sickener for Wrexham but Parkinson is seeing real development from this Wrexham side – and that should be a warning to other League One clubs.
Wrexham have lost just two of the first 13 League One games this season and one of those defeats came at Birmingham City.
Wrexham’s spending was nowhere near Birmingham’s over the summer and defeat at St Andrew’s is no great shame with the Blues favourites for promotion.
Parkinson’s side have only conceding 10 goals too and it took a dubious penalty at Charlton to break through Arthur Okonkwo in goal.
If Wrexham are already this good at League One level then Parkinson’s comment indicate that he sees his side getting even better.
There will be bumps along the way but the rest of League One should be worried about Wrexham kicking on and finding more gears over the season.
