Wrexham came so close to winning all three points at Charlton Athletic on Saturday before a cruel late penalty forced a 2-2 draw.
Phil Parkinson took his Wrexham side down to South London on Saturday afternoon and can be so proud of what he watched.
Wrexham were more than a match for the Addicks and took the lead from an own goal before Macaulay Gillesphey levelled it up.
Substitute Andy Cannon appeared to have won it for Wrexham, slotting home in front of the travelling fans at The Valley.
There was a cruel late twist though as Max Cleworth was harshly penalised for handball inside the area and Matt Godden stepped up to score a last-gasp penalty.
Wrexham were well worth a victory but that late spot kick has taken the shine off a brilliant performance.

Charlton Athletic star makes Wrexham prediction
This brings an end to Wrexham’s rather tricky run of fixtures in the last week.
Wrexham headed away to Rotherham United before hosting Huddersfield Town, facing two of last season’s Championship sides.
The trip to Charlton followed and Wrexham now have a week off until facing Harrogate Town in the FA Cup.
Phil Parkinson will be pleased to have avoided defeat across that three-game run, but will also know that his five-point tally could have been much higher.
Wrexham sit third in League One and remain in the promotion hunt with Charlton Athletic defender Josh Edwards now sharing his verdict on Parkinson’s side.
Speaking to Charlton’s official website, Edwards felt that a draw was the right result on Saturday, admitting that it was a ‘tough game’ against Wrexham.
Edwards added that he believes Wrexham will be ‘near the top of the league’ this season and provided a ‘good test’ for Charlton.
The Scot also praised Ollie Palmer and Paul Mullin as being ‘tough to play against’ before admitting that the Addicks are unhappy with Wrexham’s two goals.
“It was a tough game,” said Edwards. “I think a draw was probably a fair result in the end. Both teams had spells in the game where they were on top. It was good to get the penalty in the end, because we kept going and a point was probably fair.
“They are a good side; we know they will be near the top end of the league come the end of the season. It was a good test today. The strikers put themselves about and are very experienced, tough to play against.
“We can do better – as a defensive unit we conceded two goals that we aren’t pleased with, we need to do better. It was a tough game, but we managed to grind out a draw in the end,” he added.
New signings can help Wrexham cause
Wrexham’s unbeaten week since the international break is even more impressive given the injuries Phil Parkinson has overcome.
George Evans was already out but Jack Marriott and Steven Fletcher have gone down with injuries whilst Max Cleworth only made his return on Saturday after being spotted warming up on Tuesday.
Wrexham have battled through those injuries but now have two new faces to help bolster Parkinson’s numbers.
Midfielder Matty James and striker Jon Dadi Bodvarsson have both signed on free transfers until January, adding major experience to the Wrexham squad.
James was on the bench on Saturday and whilst it may take a while for both players to get up to speed, their know-how and quality at this level will be valuable – especially with the festive period inching ever closer.
