Phil Parkinson had a message for his Wrexham players before they beat Reading this week.

Wrexham have been no strangers to making history and smashing targets since Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac took over.

2022/23 saw the Dragons end their 15-year spell in the National League, winning promotion to League Two.

In the following campaigns, Wrexham have become the first team ever to go back-to-back-to-back when starting in the fifth tier or higher.

Now, more history has been made after Nathan Broadhead scored twice to hand the Welsh side a 2-0 win over Reading.

What Phil Parkinson told Wrexham players before Reading

While their league form in the last four years has been impressive, the Dragons have largely struggled in the cup.

In fact, Wrexham were competing in the third round of the Carabao Cup for the first time this century when they took on Reading.

Rob and Ryan’s club have now gone a step further and are in the pot for the fourth round draw

Following that historic win, Broadhead spoke to the club’s media about Wrexham now reaching this stage of the competition for just the fourth time.

And the attacker went on to share what Phil Parkinson told them prior to their clash with the Royals.

He said: “The manager told us the day before the game that we could make history. It just shows where the club’s going and, hopefully, we can get through to the next round.”

Carabao Cup last-16 draw

Wrexham loanee Modou Faal will play Arsenal in a third-round tie on Wednesday.

After Faal’s Port Vale clash with the Gunners, the last-16 Carabao Cup draw will take place.

The draw is expected to start at 10:15pm BST, but it will be delayed if the aforementioned clash has to go to penalties.

The teams currently in the draw are as follows:

Parkinson wants to face a top team in the Carabao Cup, but drawing someone like Wycombe could give the club a better chance of progressing.
