Wrexham are through to the fourth round of the Carabao Cup, and Modou Faal is hoping to follow suit on Wednesday night.

Wrexham beat Reading 2-0 on Tuesday night as Phil Parkinson booked his place in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup.

Nathan Broadhead scored twice at the STōK Cae Ras to send Wrexham through in what proved to be a comfortable victory in the end.

The Carabao Cup continues on Wednesday night, and Wrexham fans may just have one eye on Port Vale’s fortunes.

Wrexham loanee Modou Faal set to face Arsenal

Vale will host Arsenal on Wednesday night, with Darren Moore looking to inspire a giant-killing over Mikel Arteta’s Gunners.

Wrexham will have representation in the game, as loan striker Modou Faal is in line to feature for Vale.

Faal was sent on loan to Port Vale in August, less than a year after he joined Wrexham from West Bromwich Albion.

The giant striker struggled for action in League One last season, and Wrexham’s attacking refresh over the summer meant a loan move always seemed likely.

Faal has been in and out of the Port Vale side so far, but he scored on his debut in a Carabao Cup victory over Blackpool.

Faal came off the bench in Port Vale’s win over Mansfield Town on Saturday, and he will surely be in contention to start against Arsenal.

A win over Arsenal seems impossible to imagine, but Grimsby Town beat Manchester United earlier this season, so why not dream?

Arsenal centre-backs will offer elite test for Modou Faal

Parkinson will be watching Faal’s display closely, especially as he can test himself against some fantastic defenders.

Arsenal would prefer not to call on William Saliba in this one, having started the Frenchman against Manchester City on Sunday.

The Gunners possess depth at the back, though, and could start with summer signing Cristhian Mosquera alongside Gabriel Magalhaes in the heart of defence.

Piero Hincapie’s injury means he is unlikely to play, and that could mean another start for Gabriel, who is one of the very best defenders in the world.

These are top-level defenders, and Faal will have to turn in a strong display if he is to help Port Vale pull off an enormous shock.
