Wrexham’s squad has undergone major changes under Phil Parkinson, with one former player completing a transfer this week.

As the Red Dragons continue their rise up the EFL, the quality of players required is increasing.

Rob McElhenney’s favourite player, Luke Young, was among the big-name exits from the Racecourse Ground in 2024.

After their promotion to the Championship in 2025, meanwhile, Wrexham released eight senior players, including Steven Fletcher, Mark Howard, and Sam Dalby.

Now, a former player who was signed during Phil Parkinson’s first year as manager has completed a move this week.

Former Wrexham player Louis Lloyd joins new club

Wrexham signed Louis Lloyd in November 2022 on a free transfer after he had a brief stint with rivals Shrewsbury Town.

The now 21-year-old did not make a single senior appearance under Parkinson, however.

He went on to sign for Caernarfon and has just had his best goal-scoring season as a senior player.

The striker notched 21 goals in all competitions for the Welsh club, earning himself a transfer to Scottish outfit St Johnstone for an undisclosed fee.

Speaking about the move, he told the club’s media: “I’m delighted to get this move over the line. From the minute I heard about the interest, I thought it was a place I can flourish and show my talent.

“The stature of the club was a big pull for me. I got a great buzz off the head coach and that made me want to come to the club even more. His style of football suits me.

“I’ve heard a lot about Scottish football and everyone knows about that cup double in 2021. I’ve spoken to a few people who I know from up here and they had nothing but good things to say about the club.

“I can’t wait to start playing and hopefully we can give the fans plenty to cheer about this season.”

“I feel I’m quick, intelligent and clinical in front of goal. I’ve had a good, successful two years in the Welsh Premier League and I’m now looking to build on that.

“I can’t wait to meet all the supporters. I’ll get a buzz from meeting and playing in front of every single fan.”

Released Wrexham players still without clubs

Of the eight senior stars let go this year, several are still without a new team.

Fletcher and Howard are yet to find another club, though it remains to be seen if the former will actually want to do so after previously discussing retirement before joining Wrexham.

Josh Adam remains a free agent, and Jordan Davies has joined the PFA pre-season camp as he continues his hunt for a move.

But Brad Foster, Dalby, and Harry Dean have all completed transfers since their recent exits.
