Originally, Rob Mac was meant to be the sole owner of Wrexham. But he brought in Hollywood pal Ryan Reynolds and the pair haven’t looked back since.
It’s coming up to four years since Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac took over in Wales. Initially, Reynolds and Mac paid just £2million to buy Wrexham. But three promotions later, the club is a global brand, and Wrexham is now thought to be worth £150million as a club.
Currently the team is in Australia. Wrexham are trying to sell themselves in Australia after the Welcome to Wrexham docuseries proved popular down under, and on Friday, Phil Parkinson’s side got underway in their pre-season preparations.
Wrexham beat Melbourne Victory 3-0 and next play Sydney FC on the 15th. Mac and Reynolds aren’t expected to be in Australia to see what’s left of the tour, but expect them to be in Wales multiple times next season to cheer their team on in the Championship.

What Rob Mac said about Ryan Reynolds’ involvement at Wrexham
Speaking on The Dan Patrick Show, Wrexham co-owner Mac was speaking about initially buying the club, and how he originally wanted Reynolds to simply be a sponsor before realising that the Deadpool star could bring a lot more to the table.
Mac explained: “I went back and and I found the original email that I sent to him where I laid out the idea and what I wanted to do. And originally I was going to do it on my own and ask Ryan if he wanted to be a sponsor… The more I thought about it, the more I realized: ‘Wow, he’s such an entrepreneur. He’s globally famous. Whatever he touches seems to turn to gold. If I could potentially include him as a partner, that this could take this thing to the stratosphere’.”
Now with Wrexham 7,400% more valuable than it was when the pair took over, many would expect them to cash in and take their huge profits.
Are Rob Mac and Ryan Reynolds about to sell Wrexham?
There’s no immediate suggestions that the pair are looking for a way out: both have Premier League ambitions with Mac playing down the idea of consolidation in the Championship next season, instead wanting another promotion.
But there have been reports that Wrexham could sell a stake worth £350million at some point soon.
It could be another shrewd business move from Mac and Reynolds as it could bring in another potential investor with revenue streams, and another business brain to potentially help take the club to that next level.
Not to mention the £350million cash injection; of which a sizeable chunk would surely be put back into the club.
For the time being, Mac and Reynolds will be excited to see how the club copes in the Championship next season. But there will inevitably come a day when they’ll want to cash in and leave the club to the next person.
