Wrexham have been on an incredible journey under Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds and their interest in football continues to grow.

Wrexham are chasing a third straight promotion with Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds of course playing a huge part in the rise.

McElhenney and Reynolds bought Wrexham back in 2021, paying around £2million in their takeover.

The club’s progress has been enormous ever since, turning into worldwide news almost overnight.

Success on the pitch, with two straight promotions, has been backed up by a rise in prominence off the pitch.

Welcome to Wrexham’ has been a roaring success and you will often see tourists flocking to Mold Road for a taste of the STōK Cae Ras experience.

Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds finalise another investment

Wrexham are the full focus for McElhenney and Reynolds but they appear to have been bitten by the football bug.

Back in April 2024, McElhenney and Reynolds invested in Club Necaxa, a major team in Mexico.

As if that wasn’t enough, McElhenney and Reynolds are moving for another football club.

Reports in December suggested that Reynolds was on the verge of investing in Colombian side La Equidad.

A deal worth around $20million was mentioned with fellow celebrity Eva Longoria involved.

News on the La Equidad investment has gone quiet in recent weeks but the deal is now done.

The Athletic report that a huge consortium of big names has now completed their deal – which is actually worth over $30million (£24.5million).

McElhenney, Reynolds, Longoria, Kate Upton and MLB pitcher Justin Verlander are all involved in the deal.

Don’t be surprised by big Wrexham friendlies

Wrexham fans may just take more interest in both Necaxa and La Equidad as McElhenney and Reynolds continue to make moves in football.

This latest deal may just open up the prospect of friendlies involving Wrexham and other clubs under the McElhenney and Reynolds umbrella.

Wrexham have played some high-profile friendlies in the United States and teeing up games against Nexaca and La Equidad could really help bring more attention onto McElhenney and Reynolds’ other projects.

Regardless, it’s clear that being involved at Wrexham has just made the Hollywood duo more and more keen to invest in other clubs.

It’s unclear just how much involvement McElhenney and Reynolds will have in Colombian side La Equidad, but they will be hopeful of emulating the success they have brought to Wrexham.
