Wrexham faced off with Shrewsbury Town in a League One meeting on Saturday afternoon.

Wrexham headed into the game aiming to continue their unbeaten start to the 2024/25 campaign.

The Red Dragons had picked up three wins and one draw in their opening four fixtures, leaving them sat joint-top of the League One table.

Another three points were expected for Phil Parkinson and his men on September 7th as Shrewsbury Town began the day down in 20th place.

The Wrexham boss made one change to his starting line-up on Saturday, with summer signing Ollie Rathbone coming in for the injured Andy Cannon at the Racecourse Ground.

Things got off to a bright start for the home outfit in Wales as Ollie Palmer put them 1-0 up after 15 minutes.

Elliot Lee then doubled the home outfit’s advantage shortly before the break before Jack Marriott added a third to kill the tie off and send Wrexham top of the division.

Ryan Barnett has become undroppable for Wrexham

A number of Wrexham players impressed on Saturday afternoon, including goalscorers Lee and Palmer.

George Dobson was his usually assured self in midfield, winning every tackle and controlling the tempo of the game.

However, it was Ryan Barnett who stole the show at the Racecourse this weekend.

The right-back was a constant threat going forward and made a superb run from deep to set up Lee for the second goal of the day.

This is not the first time the defender has shone this season, with co-owner Rob McElhenney expressing his love for Barnett on X/Twitter during the 3-0 win over Reading.

The 24-year-old was once again one of the best players on the pitch on Saturday and Parkinson will have a hard time dropping him anytime soon.

Ryan Barnett form is bad news for Sebastian Revan

While the wider Wrexham fanbase will be thrilled with how Barnett is playing this season, his form is not great for another of the club’s full-backs.

Parkinson was blown away by Sebastian Revan after what he did in the 0-0 draw against Bolton Wanderers.

But that is the only League One game the summer signing has started so far this term.

Revan is a natural left-back but has little chance of starting ahead of captain James McClean on that side of the back-five.

As a result, moving over to right-back seemed like Revan’s best opportunity to garner more first-team minutes.

But with Barnett in the form he is right now, it is hard to see Revan being able to displace him anytime soon.
