Rob McElhenney has dropped a big hint regarding Wrexham’s 2025 summer plans when speaking this week.

Wrexham ended their 2024/25 season in style, beating Lincoln City to secure 92 points – the most they have ever managed in the EFL.

Wrexham players then jetted off to Las Vegas for what has quickly become an annual tradition to celebrate promotion.

The Red Dragons’ trip has come to an end, and attention is now beginning to turn toward the summer of 2025.

On the transfer front, Wrexham have several targets already as they look to strengthen their squad for the forthcoming campaign.

Meanwhile, a big announcement was made by the club on May 13, which Rob McElhenney has now expanded on.

Rob McElhenney appears to tease something else for New Zealand in Wrexham 2025 pre-season tour

Wrexham’s 2025 pre-season tour will take place in Australia after several years of visiting North America.

The Welsh side will take on Melbourne Victory, Sydney FC, and Wellington Phoenix in friendly fixtures from July 11 to July 19 this year.

Wellington Phoenix vs Wrexham AFC will take place at Sky Stadium in New Zealand, but new comments from the club’s co-owner appear to hint there could be more dates coming up in the country.

McElhenney was asked about the club’s upcoming trip to Australia when he was on The Rich Eisen Show on Tuesday evening – after the three aforementioned friendlies were confirmed.

He said: “So we’ve been fortunate enough to bring the club both to the East Coast and the West Coast of the US.

“But this year we’re going to our third biggest market, Australia, and possibly New Zealand.

“But Australia there’s just, it’s a massive football country, and there’s a lot of great interest in playing with Wrexham, so that’s what we’re going to do.”

Wrexham 2025/26 Championship season start date

Given that one date in New Zealand was already confirmed prior to his interview, Rob’s comments do seem to suggest something else in the country is planned.

Right now, Wrexham’s tour of Australia is due to end on July 19, and no more friendlies have been announced.

Whether it be in New Zealand, the UK, or somewhere else around the world, though, it wouldn’t be surprising to see at least one or two more fixtures booked in before the season starts.

Wrexham learned the 2025/26 Championship season start date last month, with the campaign set to begin over the weekend of August 8-10.

That would leave a two-week gap from the club’s last confirmed friendly until their first match in the second tier.
