Wrexham smashed Burton Albion on Saturday, with co-owner Rob McElhenney sharing his thoughts after the game.

They couldn’t, could they? Wrexham are now in with a very, very good chance of making EFL history this season.

No side has ever won three promotions in a row when starting from the National League or higher, but the Red Dragons are now so close to doing so.

Wrexham dominated their meeting with Burton Albion, in part due to a deserved red card within 10 minutes of the clash.

It took some time for Phil Parkinson’s side to make their man advantage count, but in the end, they ran away with the tie.

Steven Fletcher scored the opener after Wrexham were handed a penalty that was perhaps a bit soft.

Shortly after, Sam Smith netted his fourth in seven for the Welsh outfit before Jack Marriott killed the game off with the third.

Rob McElhenney reacts as Wrexham beat Burton Albion

After Wrexham beat Burton 3-0, they have now opened up a six-point lead over third-place Wycombe Wanderers, who lost to Reading in another early kick-off.

Wycombe do still have a game in hand but after Saturday’s results, even if they win it, the Welsh outfit will still be three points clear.

Ryan Reynolds visited Wrexham to watch the Burton tie, while fellow co-owner Rob McElhenney got himself up nice and early to watch the thumping from the US.

Immediately after the match, the Always Sunny star took to X/Twitter to share his verdict.

He wrote: “So, so worth getting up early today.”

When do Wycombe Wanderers play their game in hand on Wrexham

After seeing off Burton, Parkinson and co. will get a seven-day break before they return to action against Wigan Athletic on Saturday, April 12.

By the time that game rolls around, Wycombe will have already played their game in hand.

The Chairboys travel away from home on Tuesday, April 8th, for a meeting with Huddersfield Town.

They then face Stevenage next Saturday before taking on three of the current top seven in their final four fixtures.
