Wrexham continue to battle for promotion are now seeing rivals Wycombe Wanderers suffer blow after blow.

Wrexham now haven’t played a game for more than a week as Phil Parkinson’s squad recharge.

After a busy festive period, Wrexham will go into Thursday’s game against Shrewsbury Town having not played for almost a fortnight.

Wrexham’s trip to Port Vale was postponed last week and the trip to Reading had already been called off.

Parkinson will be ready to get right back to business against Shrewsbury with the race for promotion set to heat up.

Wrexham sit third in League One and have genuine aspirations of achieving a remarkable third promotion in a row.

Wycombe Wanderers suffer huge blow

Big-spending Birmingham City sit top of League One and should really win the title considering their enormous summer outlay.

Wrexham are level on points with Wycombe Wanderers, the surprise package of the League One season so far.

The Chairboys are going strong but have received blow after blow in the January window.

Key loanees Caleb Taylor and Aaron Morley have been recalled by West Bromwich Albion and Bolton Wanderers respectively and an even bigger departure is now imminent.

Sky Sports report that Wycombe boss Matt Bloomfield is now close to becoming the new Luton Town boss.

It’s stated that Bloomfield is now expected to complete his exit this week in a simply enormous blow.

Bloomfield was wanted by Coventry City earlier this season but stayed with Wycombe.

Luton have now come knocking after parting ways with Rob Edwards and the move to Kenilworth Road appears to have tempted Bloomfield away.

Wycombe signed Anders Hagelskjaer in a real coup earlier this month but January is looking like a difficult month all things considered.

Another Wycombe dent could follow after Matt Bloomfield exit

As if things couldn’t get bad enough for Wycombe, Bloomfield may not be the only departure.

Star defender Joe Low is attracting major interest too with Championship clubs flocking around him.

Swansea City have made two bids for Low according to Wales Online as Luke Williams chases a reunion with his former Bristol City development talent.

The Sun’s Alan Nixon adds that Preston North End are keen with a fee of around £750,000 needed for Low’s signature.

Few could blame Wycombe for raising that asking price given the exits they are suffering right now though with Low playing a starring role this season.

Birmingham and Wrexham certainly have bigger budgets than Wycombe and aren’t quite as ripe for cherry-picking in the January window.

Wycombe have almost become victims of their own success this season and are now losing key men – both on and off the pitch.

Wrexham will ultimately look to take advantage and overtake Wycombe in the table, starting with Thursday’s trip to Shrewsbury.
