Wrexham’s promotion push suffered a dent on Saturday afternoon as Phil Parkinson’s side only picked up a 0-0 draw at Wigan Athletic.
Wrexham fans were on cloud nine this time a week ago.
Wycombe Wanderers lost to Reading, Wrexham beat Burton Albion, and Phil Parkinson opened up a six-point gap to third place.
These promotion races always feature some twists and turns, though, and Wrexham’s lead is now down to just one point.
Wycombe beat Huddersfield Town in midweek before backing that up with a late win over Stevenage on Saturday.
Wrexham only drew 0-0 with Wigan Athletic on Saturday, allowing Wycombe to close the gap in the process.

Robbie Savage on Wrexham
Wrexham didn’t quite do enough to beat Wigan and a draw was probably a fair enough result.
Phil Parkinson fumed over a penalty decision which didn’t go Wrexham’s way, but no shots on target at the Brick Community Stadium paints quite the picture.
Wrexham must simply move on to Friday’s game against Bristol Rovers and, hopefully, get back to winning ways at the STōK Cae Ras.
Pundit Robbie Savage has now offered his view, telling BBC’s 606 that he thinks there have been better teams than both Wrexham and Wycombe this season.
Savage admitted that he was disappointed with Wrexham’s recent display against Reading, suggesting that it was a case of keeping the game tight and throwing Steven Fletcher on.
Wrexham-born Savage admitted that he wants his hometown club to win promotion – and confidently predicted that a play-off charge would be on the cards in the Championship.
Savage highlighted the spending power under Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds, believing there could be more success to come – even if the style of play isn’t always easy on the eye.
“Wycombe, I think, are now a point behind Wrexham. I’ve seen both teams play. To be fair, Wycombe and Wrexham, I can’t believe both are up there,” said Savage.
“They’ve done amazingly well to be up there. I think there’s better teams over the course of the season, but they’re there on merit. I think Reading are better in terms of the group, I think Charlton are better. It’s different styles. Listen, I’ve watched all the teams in League One, there’s some very, very good sides. You’ve got to say, Wrexham play their way, and they do it really, really well and are effective.
“I like Wrexham, I like them, but they didn’t play well against Reading when I went to see them. A young Reading side dominated Wrexham. Out of all those teams, I hope Wrexham finish second, I really do. They’d have a chance in the Championship, they would, with the owners, with what they can bring in.
“I think they’d be looking at play-offs. Honestly, they can bring in the players. Look at the size of the club now, they’re flying!”
“When I watched Wrexham against Reading, I was so disappointed with them. It was the first time I’d seen them live this season. I want Wrexham to go up in second place. I really, really do. It’d be brilliant for the town and the community, I think it would be absolutely fantastic.
“But when I watched them, it was like, ‘let’s stay in the game for 60 minutes and if it’s not going that well, let’s bring on Fletcher, let’s get the balls in the box and try and nick a goal in the last half hour of the game’. Listen, Phil Parkinson does it really, really well, they’re second in the league and he’s done unbelievable. They’ve got a way of playing, and it suits them really, really well. I’m just being honest and, listen, if I had players like that, I’d play that way,” he added.
Robbie Savage’s son linked with Wrexham
Savage wants Wrexham to win promotion and may yet see his son turn out for the club.
Transfer expert Graeme Bailey recently told EFL Analysis that Wrexham are interested in signing Reading midfielder Charlie Savage.
Savage junior was born in Leicester but the familial ties to Wrexham would me a move to the STōK Cae Ras emotional.
The 21-year-old midfielder has notched five goals and seven assists in 41 League One games this season.
The Royals sit in the League One play-off places despite their off-field issues and promotion to the Championship would surely make any deal a little trickier.
Wrexham raided Reading for Sam Smith in January, though, and may look to bring him and Savage back together in North Wales this summer.
