Wrexham are preparing to welcome Burton Albion in the latest League One clash in their fight for promotion.

Phil Parkinson’s side will be looking to get back to winning ways following a frustrating draw against Cambridge which allowed Charlton and Stockport back in the promotion race.

Wrexham’s manager has named an unchanged team in the last four League One outings but could make a defensive change in the Wrexham predicted XI with Lewis Brunt making way for Thomas O’Connor.

Parkinson praised Ryan Longman and Sam Smith for their roles in rescuing a point for the Red Dragons at the Abbey stadium and wing-back Longman has revealed some secrets about the squad’s current mindset.

Ryan Longman reveals real reason behind joining Wrexham

Longman made the move to Wrexham in the January transfer window from Championship outfit Hull City and has now revealed the real reason behind his switch.

As per BBC Sport, the lure of winning football matches and securing promotion was the motivation behind dropping down a division for the versatile wide man.

Longman stated: “”Winning games and pushing for promotion, that’s why I came here.”

Parkinson’s new signing has certainly hit the ground running for the Red Dragons, he has cemented a regular spot at right wing-back and already provided two assists in his first 13 appearances.

Wrexham squad ‘talking about’ making history according to Longman

No side has ever won three successive promotions in the English Football League but that is what the Wrexham squad are currently ‘talking about’ according to Longman.

Longman explained: “100% we’re talking about [promotion], we want to do it, that’s the goal, we want to make history, that’s what we want to do.

“We want to take care of our own business but we’ll keep an eye on what’s going on around us because at the end of the day, they’re our competitors at the moment.”

Wrexham will be confident of securing three points when they welcome Burton to the Racecourse Ground, whilst Wycombe face a tough trip to Reading.

The Red Dragons succumbed to a 2-0 defeat in March at the hands of Reading and will be hoping that their promotion rivals find the away test just as challenging.
