A new initiative from FIFA looks set to benefit Wrexham who will receive a slice of a £260million fund.
Wrexham are already making a whole lot of money. It’s understood that Wrexham could make £50million in revenue this season, following promotion to the Championship and an increase in commercial and TV income.
Owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac continue to prove savvy businessmen and marketing experts with the continued success of Welcome to Wrexham, which helps increase their popularity around the world, whilst making them more and more through sponsorship money.
And the owners have shown that they’re not afraid to reinvest that money. Wrexham have spent more than £30million on new players this summer and we could yet see the club spend big in January too, as they look for promotion to the Premier League.

Wrexham to receive money for releasing international players for 2026 World Cup
Wrexham have several players playing for their international teams right now, with six in total. Just this month, Kieffer Moore became the first Wrexham player to score for Wales since 2006, whilst names like Nathan Broadhead and Danny Ward also featured in the Wales squad, but pulled out due to injury.
The club also has Dom Hyam who’s a Scotland international, Liberato Cacace with New Zealand, and Issa Kabore on loan from Man City who’s a long-standing international with Burkina Faso.
And now it’s been revealed that FIFA will give out more money to those clubs who allow their players to go away on international duty for World Cup qualifiers and World Cup games next summer, with a pot of £260million to be shared around.
Journalist Kaveh Solhekol revealed on Sky Sports News: “FIFA are going to give 70% more money to all clubs who release players for World Cup qualifiers and also the World Cup finals in USA, Canada, and Mexico next summer. They’ve just announced that their new club benefit program will mean that a total of £260million will be shared between all these clubs.”

When is the next international break?
We can expect Wrexham to start receiving payments from the very next set of international fixtures.
Wales is the country that Wrexham players represent the most and their next game is against England on October 9th, with a World Cup qualifier against Belgium a few days after on the 13th.
After that, Wales play two more World Cup qualifiers against Lichtenstein and then North Macedonia in November.
So the next international break is in October, then in November, and so Reynolds and Mac can start receiving a chunk of this huge £260million pot from then on.
It’s a nice incentive for the club but how much they’ll realistically receive, with so many clubs set to benefit from it, remains to be seen, if not very low.
