Former Wrexham forward and player-manager Andy Morrell has now urged Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney to sign a striker to take them to new heights.
Wrexham’s transfer window has been slow in terms of incomings so far, but a frantic final two days are in the offing.
Despite looking strong at the top of League Two, currently five points behind Stockport County with a game in hand, Phil Parkinson is still looking to strengthen his squad in this window.
Although time is running out to get some recruits in, they have been busy behind the scenes in their attempts to get deals over the line.
One of those is for Salford City attacker Luke Bolton, who the club are in advanced talks with.
The 24-year-old has supplied five assists in the fourth tier this term and could provide some extra ammunition for the clinical Paul Mullin.
There is, however, one transfer that Wrexham are craving above all and that is a partner for Mullin, perhaps to become an upgrade on Sam Dalby.
Several names have been mentioned, including ambitious moves for Jack Marriott, Aaron Collins and Stephen Humphrys.
Of course, it is difficult to sign a clinical striker at the best of times, never mind in January, but former player Andy Morrell has still urged Parkinson to invest in this position.
During his playing days, he scored 40 goals in 109 appearances for Wrexham between 1998 and 2003 so he knows a thing or two about putting the ball in the back of the net.

Speaking to BBC Sport after Wrexham’s 4-1 loss against Blackburn Rovers in the FA Cup, Morrell pinpointed signing a striker as the priority if the Red Dragons are to achieve success this season, though he did claim they aren’t a million miles away from reaching the next level.
“Whether it will take a couple of players to take them to that next level, but they’re not a million miles away,” Morrell said.
“I would go and get another striker to play alongside [Paul) Mullin. It’s difficult in January, it will take a bit of money, but if the owners want to go where they say they want to, maybe this is the time to go and strengthen.”
Wrexham are the fourth top scorers in League Two but 43% of their goals have been shared between Mullin and attacking midfielder Elliot Lee.
Morrell is right, though, signing a striker could take Parkinson’s side to new heights and planning is crucial.
That means finding a long-term replacement for 36-year-old Stephen Fletcher, who has scored six goals in 16 appearances this term while improving on Dalby.
The 24-year-old is yet to score in the league this term and has instead turned provider for Mullins, supplying five assists in 25 appearances.
In the last moments of the transfer window, Wrexham can outline their ambition by signing a striker to complement the brilliance of their goal machine.
