Ryan Reynolds has spoken about one ‘surreal’ moment involving Wrexham this week after being given a prestigious honour.
Ryan Reynolds took over Wrexham four years ago alongside Rob McElhenney, who is now changing his name to Rob Mac.
Together, the duo have done fantastic work for the football club and the town as a whole.
Away from Wrexham, Reynolds is best known for his acting, philanthropy work, and various business ventures.
The Canadian has now been honoured this week, speaking about his accolade on July 1, which is Canada Day.

Ryan Reynolds ‘surreal’ Wrexham moment
Back in December 2024, Mary Simon, the Governor General of Canada, announced 88 new appointments to the ‘Order of Canada’
Reynolds was named on the Order of Canada list, with Simon explaining why at the time.
She said: “Ryan Reynolds has captivated audiences worldwide, notably writing, producing and starring in the widely successful Deadpool films. Off-screen, he supports Canadian causes including Water First Education, Covenant House Vancouver and Sick Kids Foundation, and co-founded initiatives to increase opportunities for under-represented groups. His far-reaching philanthropy continues to strengthen communities nationwide.”
Just over six months later, the Wrexham co-owner was invested as an officer of the Order of Canada during Canada Day festivities in Ottawa on Tuesday.
He conducted an interview with CBS News at the event, and when doing so, spoke about a ‘surreal’ Wrexham moment.
Asked ‘is there a place or a moment where you feel most Canadian?’, Ryan responded: “That’s a good question.
“I think, Capilano River in British Columbia. That place is really special to me and when Wrexham was playing the Whitecaps, was it very unusually surreal moment for me.
“Immediately after the match, we went to Capilano River, my daughter and I, and that’s a place that I’ve gone to since I was little, almost every day after school I’d go there, so that’s where I feel I think most at home, which I associate with Canada.”
Ryan Reynolds was linked with Vancouver Whitecaps investment
Wrexham played Vancouver Whitecaps during a pre-season fixture in July 2024 and came away with a 4-1 victory.
Reynolds spoke about facing his local side during the latest season of Welcome to Wrexham.
In Episode 1 of Season 4, he said: “Wrexham playing the Vancouver Whitecaps was one of those pinch-me moments that as long as I live, will never forget.
“BC Place is the stadium I went to as a kid, I’ve been to BC Place maybe 100 times in my life and I’ve always sat way up in the nosebleeds with my dad and here I am, I’m in BC Place with my daughter, I’m in the owners box and you know, spanking them, that felt pretty good too.”
Reports earlier this year suggested that Reynolds was considering investing in Vancouver Whitecaps, but there has been no update on that front since.
