Ryan Reynolds has named who he thinks is the most underrated player at Wrexham right now.

Wrexham have signed and developed some top talent since Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney became owners of the club.

Ryan Barnett and Max Cleworth made the League One Team of the Season in 2024/25 following the club’s promotion.

Cleworth won the Young Player of the Season award and the Players’ Player of the Season with the Red Dragons over the weekend.

Ollie Rathbone is the Player of the Season after his transfer from Rotherham United in 2024.

But Reynolds thinks there is one player who perhaps does not get the credit he deserves.

Ryan Reynolds names most underrated Wrexham player

Wrexham won promotion to the Championship on April 26, their third in a row to make EFL history.

Every player involved had an important role to play, even fringe players like Paul Mullin, who won Wrexham’s Goal of the Season recently.

But it was another star who Reynolds thinks has been the most underrated player at the club.

The actor spoke to the Fearless In Devotion podcast this week, and when doing so, was asked to give his thoughts on the topic.

Ryan gave an instant but brief response, picking out centre-back Eoghan O’Connell as the most underrated.

He said: “Eoghan O’Connell, boy, that guy has got it.”

Wrexham have Eoghan O’Connell contract to sort

The 29-year-old did not feature in the club’s final three league matches of the season, being left on the bench after picking up a knock versus Bristol Rovers.

However, the defender still played an important role across the campaign, making 39 league appearances and providing two assists.

Parkinson praised O’Connell for the experience he brings to the club’s backline alongside the younger Lewis Brunt and Max Cleworth.

But he is one of several Wrexham players out of contract in June 2025, meaning he’s currently set to leave for free.

However, it seems obvious O’Connell will get a new deal given how important he was this term.
