Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have been quick to praise three Wrexham players in the latest episode of Welcome to Wrexham.

Season 4 of Welcome to Wrexham returned to our screens earlier this month and is documenting the club’s 2024/25 campaign.

It was another amazing season for Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney’s club, who won a third straight promotion.

The Welsh outfit are now set to play in the Championship for the first time since it was rebranded.

The latest episode of Welcome to Wrexham had a special focus on a few players, all of whom were praised by Rob and Ryan.

Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds on ageing Wrexham players

During Episode 4, the Wrexham owners were quick to highlight Steven Fletcher, Mark Howard, and James McClean.

Rob said: “As a reminder, Steven Fletcher is 37 years old, Chomp is 38 years old, and James McClean is 36 years old.”

Ryan added: “What they’re putting their bodies through in their late 30s is just insane. What were you doing in your late 30s Rob? ”

To which Rob replied: “Something equally reckless, what about you, Ryan?”

And Ryan responded: “Deadpool, but I had a stunt person, and the suit is remarkably protected. I’m going to go out on a limb and say these guys are the real heroes.”

McClean is under contract for another year, but Fletcher and Howard are leaving Wrexham in June when their deals expire.

Wrexham hunt for experienced players continues

Since Phil Parkinson became manager in 2021, he has relied heavily on older, experienced players to bring success.

Despite now stepping up to the Championship in 2025/26 and already releasing two of their oldest assets, the club look set to be once again targeting 30+ stars.

35-year-old Aaron Cresswell is of interest to Wrexham as he gears up to depart long-time club West Ham United.

Danny Ings is linked as well, with the former Liverpool striker now 32 years of age.
