Wrexham are still looking for further additions before Monday’s transfer deadline, but Phil Parkinson will also look to offload fringe players.

Wrexham beat Preston North End 3-2 on Tuesday night, advancing into the third round of the Carabao Cup in the process.

Phil Parkinson will be delighted with the fight from his side, having gone into half-time trailing 2-1 at Deepdale.

Parkinson’s attention will turn to this weekend’s trip to Millwall, but he will also have one eye on Monday’s transfer deadline.

Wrexham have already made 10 signings this summer, but Parkinson has admitted wanting further additions in the coming days.

That may mean other players move on to clear room for new signings, and one double-promotion winner departed on Tuesday.

Ryan Reynolds sends message to Jack Marriott after Wrexham exit

Wrexham confirmed the sale of Jack Marriott as the striker completed a permanent move to League One side Reading on Tuesday.

Marriott has penned a three-year deal with the Royals, and he moves on in search of guaranteed first-team football.

Marriott enjoyed a blistering start to last season, but a cruel injury blow saw him lose momentum and finish the season on the Wrexham bench.

The 30-year-old departs with Wrexham’s best wishes for the future, and he has now received a message from Ryan Reynolds.

Posting on his Instagram story, Reynolds thanked Marriott for his efforts in just over 18 months as a Wrexham player.

Reynolds added that Reading have signed a ‘leader’ and a ‘gem’ by landing Marriott, adding that he will miss the striker as he says goodbye to Wrexham.

‘Thank you, Jack Marriott, for giving your all to this club and town. Reading has a true gem of a man and player in their midst. A leader on and off the field. I’ll miss him at the Cae Ras,’ said Reynolds.

More painful exits could follow after Jack Marriott sale

Reynolds always welcomes strong relationships with the Wrexham squad, and that personal touch means so much to every single player.

The flip side is that departures hurt, and Reynolds is certainly feeling Marriott’s exit right now.

Reynolds said an emotional goodbye to Paul Mullin over the summer, and there may yet be more to come in the coming days.

Ollie Palmer has been told he can leave Wrexham, and Reynolds has been a big fan of the giant striker during his time at the STōK Cae Ras.

Wrexham’s progress means these exits are inevitable, and Reynolds may find himself saying goodbye to a few more promotion heroes before the transfer window closes.
