Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds have enjoyed enormous success at Wrexham, which has only sparking more celebrity investment in football.
When Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds purchased Wrexham in 2021, opinions were certainly divided.
Some were sceptical, believing that it was a PR stunt or that McElhenney and Reynolds would quickly become bored.
Both of those ideas have been proven completely wrong, with Wrexham achieving three straight promotions.
The success of McElhenney and Reynolds has sparked a wave of celebrity investment in EFL clubs – and another has joined the mix.

Snoop Dogg invests in Wrexham rivals Swansea City
Wrexham will meet Swansea City in the Championship for an all-Welsh battle in the second tier.
Luka Modric has already invested in Swansea, but an even bigger name has now become involved.
The Swans have confirmed that rapper Snoop Dogg has become their latest high-profile investor.
It’s unclear just how much Snoop Dogg has invested or what kind of stake he is taking, but the deal means we would feasibly see McElhenney, Reynolds and Snoop Dogg together at Wrexham v Swansea games this season.
Speaking on Swansea’s official website, Snoop Dogg admitted a love of football and a real connection to Swansea as the reasons behind his investment.
“My love of football is well known, but it feels special to me that I make my move into club ownership with Swansea City,” said Snoop Dogg.
“The story of the club and the area really struck a chord with me. This is a proud, working class city and club. An underdog that bites back, just like me. I’m proud to be part of Swansea City. I am going to do all I can to help the club, and I look forward to getting to know all my YJBS,” he added.
Swansea used Snoop Dogg to jab at Wrexham just days ago, claiming to be the real pride of Wales.
The deal has now been confirmed, only adding more intrigue to Wrexham v Swansea games this season.
Snoop Dogg the latest celebrity investor
Reynolds himself may have actually inspired Snoop Dogg’s decision.
Speaking in 2024, Snoop Dogg admitted loving Reynolds’ work at Wrexham, and he wanted to invest in a team of his own.
“I love what Ryan has done with Wrexham – it’s just a great story,” said Snoop Dogg.
“Investing in a sports team has been something I have been looking at for a long time – if the chance came to invest in Celtic, I would be crazy not to take a look at it,” he added.
That moment has now arrived, with Snoop Dogg joining Reynolds and McElhenney in the Welsh sporting world.
The celebrity investment just keeps coming, with J.J. Watt investing in Burnley and fellow former NFL superstar Tom Brady part of the Birmingham City project.
Golfing stars Justin Thomas and Jordan Spieth have invested in Leeds United, with Reynolds and McElhenney certainly inspiring this trend.
None of them have fully taken over a club like Reynolds and McElhenney, though, and that still leaves them as the gold standard in terms of celebrity owners.
