Wrexham brought in a new striker on transfer deadline day as Phil Parkinson allowed not one, not two but three forwards to move on.

After a busy summer of recruitment, Wrexham brought in one more signing on the final day of the transfer window.

Striker Modou Faal arrived from West Bromwich Albion with Wrexham paying up to around £500,000 to sign him.

Faal is raw but full of potential and some patience is needed over the giant striker as he settles in at the STōK Cae Ras.

As Faal arrived, Wrexham allowed three forwards to leave as Jake Bickerstaff joined Altrincham on loan.

Billy Waters rejoined Halifax Town as Wrexham helped resurrect a late deal before the transfer window slammed shut.

Wrexham also beat the deadline to loan out striker Sam Dalby to Dundee United.

Dalby was struggling for first-team opportunities and the signing of Faal hardly helped him in that regard.

Wrexham sanctioned a move to Dundee United – a deal which Steven Fletcher certainly approved.

Dalby is now featuring in the Dundee United attack and he is joining forces with a familiar face to Wrexham fans.

Dundee United drew 3-3 with Kilmarnock over the weekend and Dalby lined up alongside Louis Moult in attack.

Moult opened the scoring but both he and Dalby were substituted in the second half.

Moult joined Wrexham from Nuneaton Town back in 2014 and became a firm fan favourite.

23 goals in 51 games saw Moult thrive under Kevin Wilkin as the pair reunited at the STōK Cae Ras.

Moult only spent one year at Wrexham though, moving on to Motherwell, Preston North End and Burton Albion in recent years.

The 32-year-old has endured injury hell over the years but is back in the goals with Dundee United.

Many Wrexham fans will love Moult and joining forces with Dalby is something we may see plenty of this season.

“We’ve got options to play with a lone striker or two,” said boss Jim Goodwin. “We have good flexibility in the group to change system prior to a game or during the game.

“The whole thing about the recruitment process is to make sure we have good strength in depth and I think we have done that. We have really good options right across the board, we have really good competition for places and the players who are in the team know they need to perform to make sure they keep the jersey,” he told STV.

Dalby may have played final game for Wrexham

Some Wrexham supporters may have one eye on Dundee United’s fortunes as a result and would love to see Dalby and Moult scoring goals together.

Whether a successful season would actually put Dalby back into the Wrexham plans is unclear.

Dalby effectively found himself as sixth-choice at Wrexham on deadline day, hence his move to Scotland.

Wrexham have ambitions to compete at the top end of League One and possibly even further, so Dalby may find himself as an odd man out moving forward.

Dalby’s contribution over the years won’t be forgotten but Wrexham’s rise will mean some departures along the way – and he may be one of them.
