Wrexham have been warned about one potential issue that may arise with their ongoing transfer business.
The Wrexham hierarchy has already begun formulating plans for the 2025/26 Championship season after promotion from League One was confirmed.
Significant progress is set to be made with regard to recruitment, whether it is improving the current crop of players or replacing those set to depart.
Paul Mullin could move on from Wrexham this summer, whilst Steven Fletcher’s departure from the club has been confirmed. Despite the likely sanctioning of attacking departures, many of the rumours flying out of the Wrexham camp involve the signings of midfielders.
Notably, Wrexham are linked with Tom Cairney, but the Fulham midfielder has confirmed that his priority lies with his current club.
Wrexham will be willing to pay big money to help their side transition to Championship level, but they have been warned about one potential drawback.

Wrexham told the drawback of big-money signings as ‘disharmony’ could spark
Reportedly, Wrexham are willing to pay Fulham star Cairney £50,000 p/w to drop down to the Championship. Cairney is a fantastic talent, but any Championship side spending such a hefty amount will always raise eyebrows.
This has been the case with Sky Sports Pundit Don Goodman, who has spoken about Wrexham’s interest in Cairney, and how it compares to Birmingham City’s potential business as well.
“If those figures that you’ve quoted are true, fifty thousand pounds a week that Wrexham are prepared to pay Tom Cairney and thirty thousand pounds a week Birmingham are prepared to pay Kwame Poku, then they will be two of the highest-paid players in the Championship,” said Goodman to Football League World.
Goodman then spoke about the drawbacks to paying a player such a hefty amount, suggesting that such a deal has the potential of stirring the dressing room.
“That in itself is staggering really, to be fair, but those are two players that would undoubtedly help those two clubs in the Championship next season, there’s no question and if that’s the kind of money that it’s going to take for them to attract that kind of player then fair play to them.
“It’s just a case of how many others can you put on those kind of wages, and if it’s not many, is there going to be resentment and disharmony in the changing room, I’m not sure about that so yeah impressive numbers but they don’t really guarantee you anything.”

Wrexham transfer strategy shouldn’t come as a surprise to current crop of players
Whilst Goodman does make a fair point that bringing in players on hefty wages can stir discontent amongst the ranks, it is safe to say that the current crop of Wrexham players are already fully aware of Wrexham’s transfer strategy, and it wouldn’t come as a surprise to them.
Recent years have seen Wrexham add experienced star players, notably signing Steven Fletcher and Ben Foster previously, both of whom would have been among the highest-paid players in their respective leagues.
The current Wrexham squad will be assuming that both Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney will be spending a hefty amount this summer, and it would be safe to assume that discontent would only arise if there wasn’t the expectation for that.
