Wrexham could allow Paul Mullin to leave the club for free this summer, according to one journalist.

Paul Mullin has firmly cemented himself as a club icon since his free transfer from Cambridge United in 2021.

The striker has over 100 goals to his name since arriving in Wales, but he lost his place in the squad after the January arrivals of Sam Smith and Jay Rodriguez.

Mullin last featured in the league for Wrexham back on January 28 in a 3-2 defeat to Stevenage.

Speculation over the Wrexham striker’s future has been circulating in the last few months, and now a transfer update has emerged.

Wrexham will let Paul Mullin leave as Wigan Athletic eye move

Mullin and Ollie Palmer had transfer interest in the 2025 winter transfer window but remained at the Racecourse.

Now, an update from Alan Nixon via his Patreon suggests that Wrexham are ready to part ways with the 30-year-old.

He is under contract until the summer of 2027, but Nixon claims the centre-forward could be allowed to go for free in order to make a transfer easier due to his wages.

It’s claimed that League One side Wigan Athletic are the team looking to put together a deal for Mullin, who is allowed to leave Wrexham.

What has Phil Parkinson said about Paul Mullin

Phil Parkinson has commented on Mullin and Palmer recently, following both players losing their place in the matchday squad over the last few months.

He said: “First of all, everyone’s made a contribution. What level that has been doesn’t matter because everybody’s been together and contributed.

“Of course there’s always players who would have liked to have played more. Equally, contributions can come in many forms, so I’m delighted with everybody as a group.

“Mulls and Ollie will always be legends at this club for what they’ve done. They’re under contract next year and they’ll be back in pre-season ready to go again.”

Wrexham’s 2025 pre-season will begin in Australia on July 11 until July 19, with more friendlies planned upon their return to the UK.
