One Wrexham signing was praised during coverage of the Dragons’ clash with Birmingham City.

Wrexham drew 1-1 with Birmingham City at the Racecourse Ground on Friday night.

It means that Phil Parkinson’s wait for a first home win of the season will continue for at least a couple more weeks, and that the Welsh outfit remain winless against the Blues since 1997.

George Dobson was praised by fans after he scored the opening goal of the clash.

But Wrexham could not hold onto their lead, conceding inside a minute of the second 45 getting underway.

During coverage of the tie, meanwhile, one summer signing came in for high praise.

Wrexham signing of Lewis O’Brien praised

Wrexham spent £33m during the summer transfer window to bring 13 players in.

Among them was Lewis O’Brien, who joined from Nottingham Forest after spending last season on loan with Swansea City in the Championship.

O’Brien has shone for Wrexham in the opening stages of the campaign and came in for high praise on Friday.

Curtis Davies covered the fixture as part of Sky Sports’ punditry team, and in the build-up to the clash, shared his verdict on O’Brien.

Davies said: “He’s brilliant. I think the big thing about Lewis O’Brien he’s got quality, but first and foremost, he works his socks off.

“He’s around the pitch, he covers every blade of grass. He’s a top-drawer player. Very, very shrewd signing by Wrexham.”

Lewis O’Brien Wrexham stats

After initially starting out as a central midfielder, O’Brien has taken up a more advanced role in recent games.

The former Swansea man is operating just behind the sole striker, Kieffer Moore, alongside Josh Windass.

O’Brien has been thriving in this role, contributing heavily on the goal and assist front.

He already has three goals and two assists in the Championship this season.

However, O’Brien probably should have added to that tally in the first half versus Birmingham, but he directed his effort straight at the Blues’ goalkeeper.
