Wrexham are undergoing their pre-season tour of Australia and New Zealand ahead of a return to Wales next week.

Wrexham beat Melbourne Victory 3-0 in their opening game of the tour, with Ryan Hardie scoring his first goal for the club.

Their second clash in Australia did not go as well, however, with the Red Dragons falling to defeat.

Wrexham lost to Sydney on Tuesday and are now gearing up to take on Wellington Phoenix this coming Saturday.

Ahead of that tie, a long-time absentee has been pictured back training following a lengthy lay-off.

Andy Cannon spotted back training for Wrexham

Andy Cannon suffered an ACL injury on February 23 during Wrexham’s 2-1 victory over Mansfield Town.

Humphrey Ker bought Cannon a PlayStation 5 as he prepared for a lengthy spell out of action.

The midfielder missed the club’s promotion run-in but is now stepping up ahead of the 2025/26 Championship season getting underway.

The 29-year-old has made the trip to Australia with the rest of the squad, and Wrexham have now shared photos of him training on July 17.

Cannon was working alongside a trainer, and the Dragons captioned their post, ‘144 days later. Keep smashing it, AC’.

James McClean quoted the post on his Instagram story. He wrote: “The big AC is on the comeback trail, forget Oasis, this is the biggest comeback of the year.”

Sam Smith and Ryan Hardie injury updates

Cannon is a long-term absentee, but Wrexham have picked up a couple more injury concerns this month.

Sam Smith is yet to make an appearance for the Welsh outfit during pre-season, while Hardie was taken off on his debut.

Phil Parkinson provided updates on Smith and the new Wrexham signing this week.

He said: “We’ve got a few other injury concerns. Nothing major. You know, Jay Rodriguez obviously hadn’t played previously. Had a problem with his foot and he was still feeling it. So we need to assess that quickly.

“Hopefully get Ryan Hardie, Mo Faal close to being selected for the weekend because those two need some minutes. Sam Smith’s still a bit behind that. We’ll just see how everybody is tomorrow.”
