Wrexham have been transformed under Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac, with the club in much better shape than it was when an ex-player was honing his craft at the Racecourse Ground.

Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac bought Wrexham from the club’s Supporters Trust in February 2021 for £2m.

After play-off disappointment in their first full season, the duo have now overseen a historic three promotions in a row.

Wrexham will play in the Championship for the first time in 2025/26, and the club now has a valuation of £350m.

It’s not just on the pitch where Reynolds and Mac have been able to make a difference, however, as one former player pointed out recently.

Neil Taylor on Wrexham owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney

The Wrexham owners have been praised in the House of Commons for the work they have done around the football club.

Elsewhere, Reynolds and Mac were lauded by Wales’ First Minister for how their success with the club has helped the town.

Now, former Wrexham defender Neil Taylor has shared his thoughts on the North American duo and how they have ‘saved’ the town.

He said while being interviewed by Football City Talk during the club’s pre-season tour of Australia: “I think I’ve used the words before that I think that Rob and Ryan have saved the town, not just the football club.

“They’ve really saved the town and the fact they picked us is unbelievable on its own. I know we’re the oldest international football club in the world, so maybe that was the draw.

“But I think for the football club to be where it is now, it’s literally been saved, and also I know that they’re part of Hollywood, but to go back-to-back-to-back and possibly try and do it again is beyond anything you could try and script. So yeah, it’s a fairy tale to be honest.”

Neil Taylor career after leaving Wrexham

Taylor came up through Wrexham’s academy, making 79 appearances for the senior side.

He left for Swansea City on a free transfer in 2010, where he played the bulk of his career.

The 36-year-old went on to feature over 100 games for Aston Villa before a move to Middlesbrough in 2021.

Taylor retired shortly after his brief stint with Boro came to an end in early 2022.
