The first leg of the 2025/26 Championship season is now behind us and it has been a mixed month for Wrexham.

The Red Dragons got off to a positive start when returning to the second tier of English football for the first time in 43 years.

They went 1-0 up against Southampton but eventually lost that match 2-1 thanks to two late goals.

A 3-2 defeat at the hands of West Bromwich Albion followed before a frustrating 2-2 draw with Sheffield Wednesday, which saw Phil Parkinson’s side blow a two-goal lead.

Most recently, Wrexham beat Millwall 2-0 to secure their first victory in the competition, and their predicted league position has now changed.

Wrexham predicted Championship league position

Before a ball had been kicked in the Championship this season, Wrexham were predicted to finish 21st by Opta.

A slow start to the season saw the Dragons drop into the relegation zone in Opta’s supercomputer model.

After Millwall, Wrexham were back in 21st place, but they have now seen a sizable increase going into the September international break.

Opta are now predicting that the Welsh side will end the 2025/26 season in 17th place, well clear of the relegation zone.

Their chances of winning promotion in the current campaign remain pretty low.

When do Wrexham play next

In previous seasons, Wrexham have not really been impacted by international breaks.

National League, League One and League Two sides generally continue to operate during these periods, barring the odd postponed match.

But now that they are in the Championship, the Dragons will not play during any international breaks.

Wrexham return to action on September 13 against Queens Park Rangers before some tough tests against the likes of Norwich City and Leicester City.
