Wrexham have completed their sixth signing of the summer with the capture of Lewis O’Brien from Nottingham Forest.
Wrexham have broken their transfer record with O’Brien paying a fee believed to be in the region of £5m, with the player signing a three-year contract at the Racecourse Ground.
Phil Parkinson has been intent on adding quality to his midfield this summer and O’Brien now joins George Thomason and Josh Windass in that department.
Parkinson is delighted with the signing of O’Brien and Wales Online journalist Tom Coleman has told Wrexham fans exactly what they can expect from their new acquisition.

Wrexham fans told they have signed ‘complete’ midfielder in Lewis O’Brien
Speaking on the latest episode of the ‘Rob.Ryan.Red’ podcast, Coleman has given a glowing review of Wrexham’s new midfielder O’Brien.
Coleman stated: “I think there’s many down here who would view him as one of the more complete central midfielders that’s possible to get in the Championship.
“There’s plenty down here who would probably be of the opinion that Lewis O’Brien could potentially do a job in the lower ends of the Premier League.”
Wrexham fans have been begging for creativity and Coleman believes that O’Brien can provide ‘a bit of everything’ in the middle of the park.
Coleman explained: “I view him as a traditional box-to-box number eight, an all-action midfielder that can do a bit of everything. He’s got a lovely creative streak in him, can pick out a pass and bring others into play but he’s also not afraid to muck in defensively.”
How Lewis O’Brien has described himself to Wrexham fans
Speaking to the club’s official website upon signing, O’Brien has given his own verdict on what the Wrexham fans can expect from him next season.
O’Brien stated: “I’m a high energy and high action player. I’m a ball playing midfielder but off it I work very hard. Hopefully I can chip in with some assists and goals.”
With a midfield overhaul now complete, attentions will turn to Parkinson’s defensive options with the club still looking for an experienced head at the heart of the back three.
The Red Dragons are also willing to splash the cash on another striker, so fans can expect more excitement yet in the transfer window.
