Wrexham legend Paul Mullin has named his favourite moment with the Red Dragons, one that came after a period of ‘hurt’ for the club.
Wrexham have undergone a meteoric rise through the English football pyramid, notching three successive promotions to take them all the way to the Championship.
In that time, several Red Dragons players have woven their name into Wrexham folklore, with Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney’s tenure at the club proving to be a golden generation for the club.
One man who has embodied Wrexham and its arrival on the international scene is Paul Mullin, the first blockbuster signing of the Reynolds and McElhenney period.
Mullin has been crucial to all of Wrexham’s recent success, and one moment stands out ahead of the rest for the Liverpudlian striker.

Wrexham legend Paul Mullin reflects on National League promotion as a stand-out moment
Out of the three promotions that Wrexham have achieved in the past three seasons, surprisingly, the one that took the most work was the Red Dragons’ success in the National League.
Falling at the play-off stage in Reynolds and McElhenney’s first season meant that the pressure was on Phil Parkinson and the squad in the second campaign, but they managed to deliver on that spectacularly.
Promotion was clinched in a home victory against Boreham Wood under the Racecourse floodlights, and it was a moment that Paul Mullin will not ever forget.
Via the club’s YouTube, Mullin reflected on his special time at Wrexham, where he said: “That season [2022/23] is something that will never be forgotten. It’s probably a promotion that’ll never be equalled in terms of emotion. We got promoted from League Two, but it didn’t feel like that. We got promoted from League One, it didn’t feel like that.
“The 15 years of hurt, and seeing grown ups crying on the pitch, thanking you for what you’ve done and what you’ve provided for the town and the community is something that’s very emotional and I still think about it now.
“That day, getting promoted against Boreham Wood, will always be probably one of my fondest memories in football, if not the fondest memory.”

Paul Mullin’s 2022/23 season will never be topped
Following the heartbreak of the 2021/22 National League season, Wrexham responded immensely by topping the table on 111 points.
Whilst Mullin didn’t quite clinch the top scorer award that season, with Notts County’s Macaulay Langstaff notching an absurd record of 42 goals in 45 appearances, the Wrexham forward’s 38 in 46 helped the Red Dragons to the title, whilst County dropped into the play-offs.
It makes sense that Mullin reflects on this season with such fondness, especially when looking at the heights he reached.
Mullin has cemented his name as a Wrexham legend, much for the character he has been in WrexhamFX, but as well as that, being a ridiculously talented goalscorer who delivered a perfect season for the club.
