Wrexham have produced shockwaves through football with some of their signings in recent years but none more so than Paul Mullin.

Following Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney’s takeover back in 2021, Wrexham signed Mullin in the National League after the striker had just scored 32 goals in League Two for Cambridge.

Humphrey Ker convinced McElhenney to sign Mullin and the rest, as they say, is history after the 30-year-old’s incredible 105 goals for the club.

Mullin is now linked with a move away from Wrexham but supporters hope that if he can have a full pre-season under his belt he may find his way back into Phil Parkinson’s plans next campaign.

He is a legend at the Racecourse Ground and fans may have cause for optimism that he will stay after he once revealed the true reason he signed for Wrexham.

Paul Mullin revealed real reason he signed for Wrexham

Speaking on the ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ documentary series, Mullin once explained the true reason he signed for the Red Dragons amid claims he only went for the money.

On season 1, episode 3, the striker revealed that his family were the true motivation behind signing for Parkinson’s side despite having just achieved promotion to League One with Cambridge United.

Mullin stated: “It was documented when I come to Wrexham that it was a big deal for the club blah blah blah but for me it was about being close to my family,

“Someone could have offered me 60 grand a week to go play in China and I’d have sat looking at my child thinking ‘I can’t leave you again’.”

Can Paul Mullin still have a future with Wrexham?

Mullin is well settled in Wrexham following a successful four-year spell with the club and despite links with Wigan Athletic, he could still stay at the club this summer.

Parkinson has confirmed transfer exits this summer as he continues to whittle down his Wrexham squad ready for the 25-man submission to the EFL.

Despite Mullin’s exile from the team towards the end of the last campaign, he has not had a full pre-season in the last two summers due to injuries.

Steven Fletcher departed Wrexham following the end of his contract and there are doubts over whether Ollie Palmer and Modou Faal will remain this transfer window.

There is hope that if he can return to the club and train hard, there could be a future in the Championship squad and a chance for Mullin to produce more memorable Wrexham moments.
