Wrexham have started the season in style and sit second in the League One table coming out of the second international break.
Back-to-back promotions fired Wrexham into League One as the Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds project took a huge step forward.
Competing at League One level was a major jump for Wrexham and signings were necessary to make the leap.
Wrexham landed eight summer signings and added a free agent after the window closed with Josh Adam arriving.
The results so far have been impressive with Wrexham claiming six wins from the first 10 League One games, also recording two draws and two defeats.
Phil Parkinson will be keen to prove that this isn’t just a case of a good start before Wrexham drop off, so here are three reasons for fans to be optimistic moving forward…
Home form remains exceptional
Nobody will fancy a trip to the STōK Cae Ras this season.
Wrexham have started the campaign with five wins from five in home League One games, beating Wycombe Wanderers, Reading, Shrewsbury Town, Crawley Town and Northampton Town.
It’s often said that winning your home games and picking up points on the road brings success.
Wrexham reaped the benefits of that formula last season, claiming 17 wins from 23 home league games whilst drawing three and losing just three.
Phil Parkinson is looking to replicate that success this season and the early signs are very encouraging, especially in front of full houses.
Summer signings still waiting for lift-off
Wrexham had to bolster Parkinson’s options after winning promotion and the boss will be happy with his nine additions since going up.
Many of them are yet to break into the Wrexham lineup on a consistent basis though with Arthur Okonkwo and George Dobson the only regular starters.
Dan Scarr, Sebastian Revan, Lewis Brunt, Ollie Ratbone and Modou Faal are yet to really get going whilst Callum Burton is serving as proven cover for Okonkwo in goal.
Their chances will come and those signings offer a blend of League One experience and potential for the future.
For Wrexham to be performing so well with the core of last season’s team is testament to Parkinson’s trust in his players, but there is a chance for those summer signings to come in and make a big difference down the line.
Paul Mullin hasn’t even got going yet
Wrexham saw star striker Paul Mullin undergo surgery over the summer, meaning he missed most of pre-season.
Mullin therefore wasn’t ready to start the League One campaign, leaving Parkinson to go with Ollie Palmer and Jack Marriott up top.
Palmer and Marriott have started the season brilliantly, leaving Mullin to try and work his way back in from the bench.
Mullin has yet to score in League One and is having to remain patient as he seeks opportunities in the Wrexham side.
Parkinson won’t be concerned; he knows the goals will come for Mullin after a slow start, just as they did last season.
If Wrexham are already thriving without Mullin’s goals, there is more than enough reason to believe that things can get even better once he returns to top form.
