Wrexham might have to move on from one of their rumoured transfer targets, or at least wait until later in the summer transfer window to get their answer.
So far this summer, Wrexham have signed Ryan Hardie and Danny Ward, whilst loaning out Paul Mullin to Wigan Athletic.
It’s a steady start to the summer, albeit a bit of a slow start compared to the likes of Championship rivals Birmingham City, but there remains almost two months of the summer transfer window and so there’s plenty of time for more signings.
And there’s a growing number of players linked with a move to Wrexham this summer. In fact, recent reports have revealed how Wrexham have agreed a £5million deal for Lewis O’Brien, though his move to the Racecourse is complicated by his wage demands.
Another name mentioned is Ben Davies. Welsh legend Davies is tipped to leave Spurs this summer having signed a contract extension to keep him at the club until the summer of 2026. Despite the new contract, reports said Wrexham still want to sign Davies this summer.

Spurs complications could mean Wrexham deal for Ben Davies is held up
Spurs have changed manager this summer, replacing Ange Postecoglou with former Brentford boss Thomas Frank. And Spurs have just signed defender Kota Takai which is likely to push Davies down the pecking order, and potentially toward the exit door after 11 years with the North London club.
The latest on the matter comes from The Telegraph. Spurs have qualified for the Champions League next season after winning the Europa League last time round, but Frank faces a headache with regards to ‘locally trained players’.
As The Telegraph writes: “Clubs are allowed to name a 25-man Champions League squad, of which eight must be locally trained. Up to four of the locally trained players can be ‘association-trained’, with an additional four club-trained. If a club have fewer than eight locally trained players in its squad, then their maximum number of A list players is reduced accordingly.”

What that means for Wrexham and Ben Davies
As things stand, Spurs have 24 non-locally trained players in their ranks, and so that means Spurs signing any more non-locally trained players means that would surely have to sell others beforehand.
So that might push the 96-cap Welshman Davies even closer to a summer transfer. But on the flip side it could mean that Spurs look to keep Davies around, as he’s one of just seven association-trained players at the club.
For Wrexham then, signing Davies might have to wait until later in the summer when Spurs have figured out who they’re keeping, and have signed any more association-trained players to keep numbers up.
Davies, who Postecoglou previously described as ‘outstanding’, is still tipped to leave Spurs this summer despite his contract extension, though Wrexham face competition from the likes of Premier League Leeds United for his signature.
