Wrexham are competing in the Championship and for the first time in several years, could face a relegation battle.

Wrexham clash with Norwich City this weekend, looking to earn a much-needed victory.

The Dragons were beaten by Queens Park Rangers in a pretty convincing fashion in their previous outing.

Prior to Norwich, they have won just one match in the Championship all season and have dropped down to 21st in the table.

Should they lose and Oxford United win on Saturday, they will move into the bottom three.

Will Wrexham be relegated from the Championship

After QPR, Opta’s supercomputer predicted that Wrexham will be relegated, finishing 22nd in 2025/26.

Sheffield United are dead bottom of the league right now, but they have once again appointed Chris Wilder as manager, and their form is expected to improve as a result.

The Blades’ success will be bad news for Wrexham, but Wayne Jones doesn’t believe his team are in any danger

The Welcome to Wrexham star and Turf Pub owner was discussing the Dragons’ start to life in the second tier this week.

When doing so, he said he is not worried about relegation: “My only slight worry is that we’ve shipped 10 goals in five games, which is not like us. Now, that obviously is two factors. One that the strikers are a lot better, but two, four or five of them goals that I’ve analyzed, we, even in this league, we should be keeping out. We should be stopping them goals. We should be hard to beat.

“I would expect us to go to Norwich and probably put two banks of five in there and just try and get out of there with a point if we can. And we would take that, you know, it’s a 500-mile round journey, but it’s worth it if we get a point.

“But overall, yeah, disappointed slightly with the four points because I think we’ve left a few out there, but we’ll learn from that, and I maintain I don’t think we’ll, I don’t think we’ll be threatened with a relegation, if I’m honest.”

How many points Wrexham need to avoid relegation

Traditionally, a points total of around 50 or above is enough to keep teams up.

In 2024/25, Hull City just avoided the drop with 49 points and a better goal difference than 22nd-place Luton Town.

The season prior, Plymouth Argyle stayed up ahead of Birmingham City with 51 points.

In 2022/23, Cardiff City finished just above the relegation zone with 49 points.

With 41 games left and four points on the board, Wrexham need to average about 1.1 points per game to reach 50 this season.
