An insight into Phil Parkinson’s message to Wrexham players right before they won promotion has now been shared.

Wrexham made history in the 2024/25 season when they secured 92 points in League One.

They finished second in the third tier, losing out on the league title to a big-spending Birmingham City.

Wrexham won promotion on April 26 when they earned a dominant 3-0 win over Charlton Athletic.

Now, Steve Parkin has provided an insight into what Phil Parkinson told his players shortly before that clash.

What Phil Parkinson told Wrexham players before promotion

Wrexham vs Charlton was the day’s late League One kick-off, with third-place Wycombe Wanderers playing at 12:30pm.

The Red Dragons knew that if Wycombe lost and they won, their second-place finish would be confirmed.

And assistant manager Parkin has now revealed, as per Leader Live, what Parkinson was telling players in the build-up to what proved to be a historic day for Wrexham.

He said: “The manager spoke to the players on the Friday and told them, under no circumstances, are we bothered what happens with Wycombe.

“Obviously that result went for us and that does help but the key thing was to concentrate on our job.

“There was no jumping up and down because Wycombe didn’t get a good result.

“They have had a phenomenal season as well, but the day was all about Wrexham Football Club, and we got the job done.”

How Wrexham players felt before promotion to Championship

Wrexham are now the first team in history to win three promotions in a row when starting in the National League or above.

And Parkin shared an insight into how the players were feeling right before they beat Charlton.

He said: “We felt really calm. We know we’ve got good players and we thought they’d produce on the big stage, which we needed to do and there were some massive performances.

“It was a tremendous way to get promoted. We played a really good side and we were by far and away the better team.

“We scored good goals and it was let the celebrations begin.

“When we drove in for the game, there was a feeling of confidence, not arrogance.

“We had the belief that if we put on a performance and with the fans obviously right behind us, we would take some stopping and that proved the case.”

The 2025/26 campaign now awaits, with Rob McElhenney hinting at going for another promotion with Wrexham.
