Why imminent Championship decision could impact Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac over pursuit of key Wrexham target

Wrexham’s hunt for one Premier League star could be impacted by an impending Championship decision that would directly impact another club, and the Red Dragons as a result.

Wrexham kick off their Championship season this weekend with a trip to Southampton; however, they have not yet finished their transfer dealings just yet.

Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac gave Phil Parkinson a sizeable budget to bring in new players at Wrexham this summer, and the Red Dragons boss has made full use of it.

Whilst Parkinson has been strategic with his transfer business, bringing in free agent Josh Windass most notably, money has also been spent on the likes of Lewis O’Brien, Liberato Cacace and Kieffer Moore, to name a few.

One thing that Wrexham are yet to do, however, is bring in a player on loan, and whilst they have been linked with a Premier League star in what would be a temporary deal, their standing in the race could be affected by one looming Championship decision.

Wrexham’s pursuit of Lewis Koumas could be impacted by imminent Hull City decision

Wrexham are keen on signing Lewis Koumas on loan from Liverpool for the upcoming season.

The Liverpool youngster endured a positive spell last season at fellow Championship club Stoke City, where he notched vital experience at a top level.

Unfortunately, there is plenty of interest in Koumas, including from Hull City.

Fellow Championship club Hull City are currently under a transfer fee ban, meaning that they cannot offer any money to Liverpool for the young attacker, however, a hearing has taken place with the club being confident that the restrictions could be eased, or even fully lifted.

Wrexham will be keen to get a deal over the line, but Hull City could lodge an improved offer that beats what the Red Dragons can offer if they get a positive response from the EFL following the hearing.

Wrexham have one upper hand in Lewis Koumas deal

Whether Wrexham can offer the most money to secure a deal for Lewis Koumas this summer or not, the Red Dragons could be in the driving seat purely for location reasons.

As a current Liverpool player, Koumas will ideally wish to not have to relocate elsewhere, and Wrexham’s case is even further strengthened due to the attacker being born in Chester.

On top of that, the upwards trajectory at Wrexham can potentially be too difficult for a player to turn their nose up at. It is clear that the Racecourse Ground is a fantastic place for a player to come and thrive, and Liverpool will be fully aware of that.
