Wrexham will be looking to put the disappointment of defeat against Southampton behind them when they take on West Brom this weekend, but either way, it’s going to be a day that goes down in history.
It’s been a pretty good week for Wrexham overall, having pushed recently relegated Southampton to the wire in the Championship opener, before defeating Hull City in the Carabao Cup in midweek.
The Red Dragons have well and truly shown they can compete with teams in the second tier, and next up they’ll be facing Ryan Mason’s West Brom side.
It’s the first league game at the Racecourse Ground, and Wrexham vs West Brom will be broadcast on television, which is very fitting given the historical nature of this particular fixture.

Wrexham and West Brom have never met in the league before
We already know it’s been 43 years since Wrexham were last in the second tier, but what’s really interesting is that throughout their ups and downs in the Football League, the Red Dragons have never actually crossed paths with West Brom before.
Indeed, this will be the very first league meeting between the two teams in their entire history. West Brom have pretty much always been at least one division higher than Wrexham, often more.
The two teams have met just twice in their history, with both of those games coming in cup competitions. Wrexham beat West Brom 1-0 way back in 1930 in the FA Cup, and then in the summer of 1971, West Brom triumphed in the Watney Cup 2-1.

There are other teams Wrexham have never played in the league
This will be a season of firsts and records being broken for Wrexham, with the Red Dragons having a great chance of achieving an all-time high finish if they can land anywhere above 16th place this term.
There are also other teams Wrexham have never played in the league, including Ipswich Town and Middlesbrough.
One record they’d love to crack this season, of course, is to land that impossible dream of a fourth-successive promotion. Wrexham already have three in a row; surely they can’t go one further, can they?
