Wrexham fans are fully focused on Wednesday’s EFL Trophy clash against Peterborough United but the STōK Cae Ras is in for a busy week.

Wrexham won on the road on Sunday afternoon, beating Mansfield Town 2-1 away from home.

After Wrexham’s home defeat to Leyton Orient last week, this away day victory was a welcome boost for Phil Parkinson.

There is no rest at this stage in the season though and Wrexham are gearing up for another big game.

Peterborough United visit in the EFL Trophy on Wednesday night with a place at Wembley up for grabs.

Wrexham will hope to book a place in the final, but this is not the only game taking place at the STōK Cae Ras this week.

Sweden women’s star excited for Wrexham visit

The busy schedule has thrown up a situation where Wrexham play at the STōK Cae Ras just 24 hours after the Welsh women host Sweden in a UEFA Women’s Nations League clash.

Rhian Wilkinson and co are preparing to welcome Sweden to North Wales after defeat to Italy in Monza on Friday.

The STōK Cae Ras pitch still take on a heavy workload this week but this is a great opportunity for the women’s game to grow in Wales.

Wrexham fans will no doubt turn out to support Wales here whilst being given a glimpse of top women’s stars such as Fridolina Rolfo and Stina Blackstenius.

Captain Magdalena Eriksson has now spoken exclusively to Y Clwb Pêl-droed ahead of Tuesday’s game and shared her excitement about playing at Wrexham.

Eriksson noted that she has watched the world-famous ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ documentary series showcasing the rise of Wrexham under Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds.

The Bayern Munich defender was ‘quite excited’ when she heard that she would be playing at the STōK Cae Ras and believes that women’s football is on the rise in Wales.

“I’ve seen the Welcome to Wrexham documentary, at least the first season, so I was quite excited when I heard this was where the game was going to be!” said Eriksson.

“I’ve seen the ground in the documentary, and I obviously know about the club, so it is exciting, and it feels like women’s football in Wales is going on a rise.

“They qualified for the Euros in the summer, they have a team that keeps getting better, and it’ll be a really good game tomorrow with a great atmosphere,” she added.

How Wrexham Women are faring this season

A key part of ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ has been showcasing the fortunes of Wrexham Women too.

Reynolds has supported Wrexham Women with some games being held at the STōK Cae Ras.

Wrexham Women even toured the US last year with a concerted effort to raise the profile around the team.

After finishing third in the Adran Premier last season, Wrexham have found this season a little trickier.

Wrexham sit fifth in the eight-team Adran Premier right now with six wins, one draw and six defeats from 13 games.

The league splits into two and Wrexham take on Swansea City on Wednesday night in an attempt to sneak into the top four before the split.

Wednesday’s game was actually supposed to take place on Sunday but a waterlogged pitch caused a postponement.

Swansea occupy that crucial fourth spot but Wrexham will be looking for a big win to leapfrog the Swans and take part in the top half of the split.

Wrexham recently hammered Swansea 5-0 and a repeat performance on Wednesday night would be enormous.

This is a big week for Wrexham, the STōK Cae Ras and women’s football around Wrexham, with major interest around all three games.
