Wrexham are gearing up to face Rotherham United this weekend and Phil Parkinson has received an injury boost.

The relentless League One season continues with Wrexham once again in action on Saturday afternoon.

The dust has only just about settled on Wrexham’s 1-0 win at Huddersfield Town from Tuesday night but Phil Parkinson is now preparing to face Rotherham United.

Wrexham welcome the Millers to the STōK Cae Ras with Parkinson experiencing an uncharacteristic run of questionable results at home.

Wrexham have two fixtures before facing second-placed Wycombe Wanderers next weekend and Parkinson will be desperate to go in with a pair of victories to really ramp up the pressure.

Parkinson can’t look too far ahead right now though with Wrexham having to focus on Rotherham first.

Wrexham receive injury boost

This won’t be an easy game and Parkinson will be keen to get his squad ready for a real battle against Steve Evans’ side.

Parkinson has at least been able to welcome a player back to training ahead of the game, even if this one may come too soon.

Goalkeeper Callum Burton has taken to social media to post a photo from Wrexham training alongside the caption ‘back out there’.

Burton offered an injury update in February, noting that he was back on the grass as he ramps up his return.

Now taking part in goalkeeping drills, Burton looks to be on the verge of coming back to the Wrexham matchday squad.

Burton was praised by Parkinson as he deputised in goal for Wrexham when Okonkwo broke his wrist in November.

Sadly, Burton’s run in the team was brought to an unfortunate halt as he suffered an injury of his own against Barnsley in December.

Parkinson feared a lengthy lay-off for Burton, suggesting that he could miss the rest of the season.

Burton has defied those fears though and now looks set to make himself available for the end-of-season run-in.

Callum Burton unlikely to start for Wrexham

Burton’s return is a boost, not just for Wrexham’s squad depth but also in terms of just seeing a quality player make his return from a very unlucky injury.

Wrexham currently have Arthur Okonkwo in goal with veteran stopper Mark Howard offering great cover.

Okonkwo was recently dropped by Parkinson, suggesting that he rushed the goalkeeper back from his injury.

That means that Parkinson is likely to be cautious in terms of throwing Burton back into action.

All Burton can do is keep progressing and knocking on the door, with the stopper potentially aiming for a place on the bench again before the season ends.
