After lagging behind in 2024/25, Wrexham are starting to match Birmingham City on the financial front.

The two teams went head-to-head in League One last term, with the Blues flexing their financial muscle.

Birmingham City broke the League One transfer record for Jay Stansfield and spent over £30m across two transfer windows.

Ahead of the Championship campaign, though, it was Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac’s club that went big on the transfer front.

Wrexham spent £33m on 13 new players, breaking their transfer record several times.

Now, we have taken a look at how the duo compares when it comes to wages.

Wrexham and Birmingham City wages compared

In 2025/26, Birmingham and Wrexham are expecting £50m in revenue.

Both teams have ambitious owners with desires to reach the Premier League.

Similarly, Wrexham’s stadium is being improved, and Tom Wagner has plans to build a state-of-the-art complex in Birmingham that can house around 62,000 fans on matchdays, though that is not expected to be completed for several years.

While the Red Dragons are historically a lower-league team, their journey has very much mirrored Birmingham’s in recent years.

Both now have high-profile celebrity investment, both have a documentary on a major streaming service, both are looking to expand their stadiums, and they are both targeting similar revenue this term.

Wrexham and Birmingham are also comparable on the wage bill front.

According to Capology, the Blues’ salary outlay for 2025/26 is £18,850,000, while the Welsh side are expected to pay out £18,187,000 this season.

As for Birmingham, their highest-earning star is currently Kyogo Furuhashi, who pockets £35,000-a-week.
