Paul Mullin has responded after Phil Parkinson’s one major criticism of Wrexham hero

Paul Mullin endured a difficult 2024/25 season at Wrexham, earning criticism from Phil Parkinson.

Paul Mullin is one of Wrexham’s all-time top goalscorers, netting 110 goals for the Dragons.

He played a crucial role in them winning two promotions in a row, but his form took a dive in League One.

Mullin’s struggles are easily explained by the fact that he had ongoing injury issues for much of 2025, even after he returned to the pitch.

But that did not stop Phil Parkinson from dropping the player and highlighting a major problem in the striker’s game.

What Phil Parkinson said about Paul Mullin

Mullin’s last Wrexham goal came in a 3-2 defeat to Stevenage on January 28, 2025.

After that match, the 30-year-old did not play another league match in the remainder of 2024/25.

Parkinson explained why he dropped Mullin and Ollie Palmer when Season 4 of Welcome to Wrexham came out.

When doing so, he pointed toward the striker’s lack of goals and how the Dragons ‘just needed more’ from their number nine.

Parkinson said: “Mulls didn’t just quite get the goals, which he normally does, and I thought he had a good start to the season, and his general performances were decent, but the goals just didn’t come, and we just needed more from the player in that number nine role.”

Paul Mullin has responded brilliantly to Parkinson’s criticism

However, after an injury-free pre-season, Mullin has been back to his best in League One.

The Liverpool-born talent scored three league goals across 26 matches for Wrexham last term, prompting Parkinson to drop him.

Since becoming a regular feature at Wigan, however, Mullin has once again found his goalscoring boots.

Those who have managed to catch the Latics in action this season will have seen how much more of a threat the Wrexham loanee has looked of late.

Ryan Lowe’s side have not had the best start to the campaign overall, yet Mullin already has three goals in 10 appearances – only half of which have seen him start.

It has been a brilliant response from the centre-forward, who fans are no doubt pleased to see is getting back to his very best after a turbulent 2024/25 in North Wales.
