One of Wrexham or Wycombe Wanderers are expected to win automatic promotion from League One this season.
The Red Dragons are potentially now just eight games away from making history by becoming the first team to win three promotions in a row when starting from the National League or higher.
After they beat Stockport County 1-0 on Saturday, Wrexham’s promotion chances have been boosted slightly but they are currently predicted to just finish outside the top-two.
However, there’s still a long way to go in 2024/25, with Mike Dodds’ men having a game in hand and better goal difference.
On the plus side, Wrexham have an easier fixture list than Wycombe for the remainder of the season.

Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson speaks out on Wycombe
When the season began, it seemed as thought it would be Birmingham City and fellow ex-Championship side Huddersifeld Town who were favourites to win promotion.
To some, Wycombe’s season so far may seem surprising, especially after they lost their opening fixture of 2024/25 3-2 to Wrexham.
However, when speaking this week, as per Leader Live, Phil Parkinson stated his belief that there is a ‘misconception’ around the Chairboys and that he is not surprised at how they have performed this term.
He said: “I think there’s probably a little bit of misconception with Wycombe.
“They have been promoted to the Championship and for a lot of years have been competing at the top end of this division.
“Obviously they’ve got wealthy owners and they’ve invested well so as much as people probably look at them as a bit of a surprise package, in reality they have traditionally been competing at the top end of this division over the last few years.
“Is it a surprise? Probably not. Of course they’ve done well but our job is to get more points than them in the final run-in of the season.”

Phil Parkinson on Wrexham’s final eight games
Next up for Wrexham is a meeting with Exeter City at 3pm UK time on Saturday, March 29th.
On the excitement around the town ahead of the club’s League One run-in, Parkinson added: “You can sense the anticipation everywhere you go and everyone you speak to.
“Everyone is excited about this last run of games.
“We’ve got ourselves in a good position and we’ve got ourselves a strong platform to go and tackle these eight games, and go and have a real go at every single one of them and see where it takes us.”
Wycombe will face Lincoln City at the same time on Saturday and a loss for either side will have a huge impact on the promotion race.
