Wrexham are ready to splash the cash once again as they close in on the signing of Liberato Cacace.

Cacace was wanted by Juventus back in 2021 and is set to join Phil Parkinson’s side in a club-record transfer from Empoli.

With the Championship campaign drawing ever closer on the horizon, Wrexham are keen to get their business done quickly and efficiently.

Cacace can play in a number of roles within the side and has already earned 16 caps at international level with New Zealand. His performances for the All Whites earned him a prestigious nomination back in 2024.

Liberato Cacace thought Best FIFA Men’s 11 nomination was a ‘joke’

Cacace was nominated for the prestigious Best FIFA Men’s 11 award back in 2024 for his performances at the OFC Men’s Nations Cup with New Zealand.

The 24-year-old also played a major role in helping his country qualify for next summer’s World Cup but told FIFA that he thought his nomination was a ‘joke’.

Cacace stated: “I went to bed early that night, and when I woke up the following morning I saw that I’d been tagged in various posts on Instagram.

“I was convinced it must’ve been photoshopped or it was some kind of joke. I clicked on the post more out of curiosity than anything else, and quickly realised it was real. I had to ask my friends and my agent for confirmation. I said to myself: How is this possible?”

Wrexham are on the verge of signing a player nominated for the same award as the likes of William Saliba and Ruben Dias.

Where Parkinson uses the New Zealand international will be interesting for Wrexham fans as Cacace can play at left centre-back, left wing-back or as an attacking midfielder.

Liberato Cacace shared what he learned during his time in Italy

Also during his interview with FIFA, Cacace shared what he had learned during his time in Italy at Serie A outfit Empoli and will be looking to bring his experience to the Racecourse Ground.

Cacace explained: “I came on leaps and bounds in Belgium when I was at Sint-Truidense because they put a lot of faith in their youngsters.

“It’s different in Italy. You do far more work on tactics, there is less space on the pitch and there are more and more individual battles.”

Wrexham will face different challenges each week in the Championship and to have a player that is mindful of the tactical side of the game will add real value to the squad.

If Cacace can win his individual battles each week then that inspiration will rub off on his teammates and make Wrexham’s record signing worth every penny.
