Nigel Williams, Wrexham Council lead member for economy and regeneration has opened up about the impact that Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have had on the club and the city.

Everyone associated with Wrexham and even those with none can see the difference Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have had.

Their first move was to bring in Phil Parkinson and it is safe to say that this has paid off. Following promotion from the National League, the Reds now occupy third in the League Two table.

There has been positivity off the pitch as well as on it. From the new Kop Stand to the support for current and former players, there is lots of good to speak of. This has now seen a member of Wrexham’s City Council come out in support of the Reds.

Council has their say on global Wrexham fame

The difference that a few years can make is quite amazing. Given that Wrexham were an EFL side that had fallen to non-league obscurity, they now have League One in their sights.

In an interview with the North Wales Chronicle, council member Nigel Williams has opened up about the club.

Discussing the impact of the Hollywood owners, he said: “It’s been a fantastic year for Wrexham with the interest we’ve had from the (football) club, especially. I call it the ‘Rob and Ryan effect.’ The impact it’s had, you just couldn’t buy it.

“We’re on the world stage. I’ve spoken to people who have been on holiday and they see the Welcome to Wrexham posters all over Europe, North America and Canada. It’s fantastic exposure.”

It must be said that there has been plenty of interest growing across the pond. This has been helped by the Reynolds and McElhenney ownership, that is for sure. This has helped to bring more eyes onto the club which can only be a good thing.

High praise for community impact

The release of ‘Welcome to Wrexham‘ has helped push the club and city as a global brand and put them on the map.

This was recollected on by the council. He said: “When series one came out, the amount of interest took us by surprise. No one could have envisaged how big it’d be. Some of the stories I’ve heard are unbelievable.

“Series two of Welcome to Wrexham has just finished and it’s really cemented Wrexham as a destination for people to come and see. The thing I like about the series too is that it’s ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ – not just the club.”

This has certainly helped the local community and showed various aspects of normal life. Even The Turf pub had a huge part in the documentary which was great to see.

The impact that Reynolds and McElhenney have had is amazing and it is great to see it recognised even further.
