Wrexham have not been in action this weekend having crashed out of the FA Cup in the first round – and another free weekend is coming.

League One is relentless, an absolute slog of a season with 46 games on the schedule before even factoring in EFL Trophy, EFL Cup and FA Cup games.

Wrexham played two games in a matter of days as Exeter City and Lincoln City visited the STōK Cae Ras – and left empty-handed.

Barnsley are next up for Wrexham in another home game, but that doesn’t take place until Tuesday.

Wrexham have had the joy of a free weekend though having been knocked out of the FA Cup in the first round.

Wrexham fans may be a touch bored but players will have certainly welcomed the chance to recharge the batteries ahead of the busy festive period.

Another Wrexham postponement imminent

Wrexham have been forced to watch from afar as the second round of the FA Cup played out this weekend.

Harrogate Town – the team who dumped Wrexham out of the FA Cup – squeezed past Gainsborough Trinity with a 1-0 win on Friday.

Elsewhere, Reading were pushed all the way by non-league Harborough Town, only coming out on top in extra time.

The result sees Wrexham progress into the third round and they will be looking for a plum tie against a Premier League side on Monday.

Reading’s win also means that Wrexham’s trip to take on Reading away from home on January 11 will be postponed.

Reading will be in FA Cup action that day and Wrexham’s journey to Berkshire will now be rescheduled.

When the game does take place, Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson will be making an emotional return to his former club.

Parkinson racked up more than 350 league appearances for the Royals in his playing days, spending more than 10 years with the club.

Parkinson served as a captain at Reading too so his return to the Madejski Stadium will be an emotional one.

Wrexham beat Reading 3-0 earlier in the season with Ruben Selles admitting that Wrexham gave him a tough afternoon.

Imminent Wrexham opponents embarrassed

Wrexham face Barnsley on Tuesday night but then head to Burton Albion next weekend.

Barnsley lost on penalties to Bristol Rovers on Saturday, leaving boss Darrell Clarke ‘angry’ with his players ahead of facing Wrexham.

Wrexham then travel to Burton Albion but the Brewers have suffered embarrassment this weekend.

League One’s bottom club have won just once in the league this season and have now been dumped out of the FA Cup on penalties by non-league Tamworth.

Burton are struggling badly and Wrexham will be looking to pile on the misery next weekend once Parkinson’s attention turns away from Barnsley.
