Barnsley boss ‘angry’ at his own players ahead of facing Phil Parkinson’s Wrexham

Wrexham have not been in action this weekend but Phil Parkinson will have used this time to really prepare for the midweek clash with Barnsley.

The League One schedule is a relentless one but Wrexham fans have had a relaxing yet probably boring weekend.

Wrexham’s FA Cup defeat at Harrogate Town meant no second round clash and no League One encounter.

The attention turns to Tuesday’s clash with Barnsley as Wrexham look to maintain some promising form.

Home wins over Exeter City and Lincoln City have left Phil Parkinson praising Wrexham fans for their role in the superb record at the STōK Cae Ras.

Barnsley are the next visitors but haven’t exactly enjoyed ideal preparations for Tuesday’s trip to Wrexham.

Barnsley boss slams his players ahead of Wrexham clash

The Tykes were in FA Cup action as they hosted fellow League One side Bristol Rovers at Oakwell.

Barnsley remarkably fired 30 shots at the Bristol Rovers goal with nine on target – but just couldn’t score.

This second round clash went all the way to penalties and Bristol Rovers came out on top, booking their place in the third round.

Barnsley fans are no doubt perplexed after seeing their side dominate and create so many chances yet still end up losing.

Wrexham are unlikely to allow nearly as many shots on goal given the defensive record under Parkinson this season.

Barnsley boss Darrell Clarke has now laid into his players ahead of Tuesday’s game, slamming them for their performance in front of goal.

Speaking to The Yorkshire Post, Clarke admitted that he is ‘angry’ with his players because their final product just wasn’t good enough.

Clarke questioned just how on earth his players managed to not win the game, claiming that they are simply ‘not good enough’ in the final third.

“I’m angry at the minute but I need to assess it. When I watch it back, I’ll probably be more frustrated. Because whether it be that final pass or final shot, we just didn’t do it right.

“The game’s all about finishing chances, finishing opportunities. [It was] a very frustrating afternoon for us, a lot of dominance with the ball, a lot of chances created, but not doing what we’re supposed to be doing in the final third cost us.

“The result hurts, very much so, because how do we not win the game? The reason we don’t win the game is because we’re not good enough in the final third,” he added.

Barnsley still a threat for Wrexham

Clarke clearly isn’t happy and may just be trying to provoke a big response ahead of facing Wrexham on Tuesday night.

Saturday was a day to forget for Barnsley but they remain a major threat for the clash at the STōK Cae Ras.

Barnsley sit sixth in the League One table, seven points adrift of Wrexham but having lost just four times this season.

Barnsley have the likes of Stephen Humphrys in attack whilst former Wrexham man Davis Keillor-Dunn can pose a threat from midfield.

Wrexham can’t take this game easy and must still be on top form to come away with three points against the Tykes this midweek.
