Wrexham fans have been reacting after their club made an official announcement regarding an ‘outstanding’ player.

The Red Dragons are competing in the Championship next season and will therefore have a 25-man squad.

That is three more than they were allowed in League One, but unlike in the third tier, all goalkeepers over the age of 21 must be registered.

Wrexham signed Danny Ward this week, and he’s expected to act as a backup option to Arthur Okonkwo.

Callum Burton remains at the club as well, so it came as little surprise when it was shared this week that Luke McNicholas has left for Forest Green Rovers.

Wrexham fans react to club announcement

McNicholas signed permanently in 2024 but struggled to break into the first team and was sent out on loan to Rochdale in 2024/25.

Wrexham confirmed the player’s exit on social media this week, and fans have all taken to the comment section of the post to wish the shot-stopper well.

One fan wrote: “Talented young keeper, impressed in his appearances. Best of luck to him at FGR and beyond!”

Another Wrexham supporter wrote: “Good luck Luke.”

A third fan echoed: “Good luck big man absolute gentleman.”

“Good luck, fella!”, wrote another, while a fourth tweeted: “Good luck, Luke!”

A fifth wished: “Thank you, Luke! Wishing you all the best with Forest Green.”

While a sixth Red Dragons fan stated: “All the best Luke McNicholas,” and a seventh replied: “Good luck Luke!!!”

Luke McNicholas Wrexham stats

McNicholas made his Wrexham debut on October 10, 2023, against Crewe Alexandra.

He completed 90 minutes and kept a clean sheet in a 3-0 EFL Trophy victory.

The shot-stopper went on to make a further two appearances in the same competition that season.

He started in a 2-1 win over Port Vale and completed the full 90 minutes when Wrexham lost 3-2 to Burton Albion.

McNicholas did not make another appearance under Parkinson before his exit this week. The keeper spent time on loan with Rochdale, where he was labelled as ‘outstanding’ by manager Jimmy McNulty at the time.
